Has anyone used Royal Purple oil in their scooby ?

Royal Purple seems quite big in the states, i'm just wondering if anyone uses it on here. They don't do a 10/50 which is what i'd prefer, it would have to be 10/40. The range i was looking at is their HPS range which is more suited to the streets. any feedback would be appreciated.

it’s a good brand , a lot of my other fellow club members use it in monaro’s and vxr8 with standard ish powered cars , and with forced induction cars with power going well past 700 800 bhp with no issues , i use 10/40 in my forged and non forged sti’s ( with out an oil debate 😂😂) the only down side not as readily available unless via certain sellers 👍

I used it in my 2.5 forged by AS Performance running 484 bhp. Strange smell to it but otherwise no issues.

I'd stick with Millers, Fuchs or Castrol personally. I don't recall where but i remember seeing some bad things about RP oil, probably from one of the Subaru you tubers.

be intrigued what you found as its undoubtedly higher quality than the likes of Castrol, Fuchs / Silkolene........

I saw something called additive drop out on the millers nano about 4 yrs back....... Congealed lump at the bottom of the tub, ive used millers since then and its always been ok.
As i said before Motul 300v is the choice of many pro engine builders you can pretty much tell by the price of it, smells lovely too!.... If you like that sort of thing.
By the way the additive drop out was found by @Ginola hes on here and iirc he moved on to Royal Purple and loved it.
Fuches is cheap in comparison and theres a reason for that.

Everyone has their favourite oil (being the one that was in their reliable engine or some other reason).

I'm sure RP is decent, but i prefer to stick with the oils I've used without issues before. I think most of us are changing the oil every 3-5 k anyway, so i would expect any of these synth oils would be fine if you use the correct grade.

Yup 3000miles for me, Paul finch told me not to use castrol on his build, i didnt ask why, i assume there was a reason for it.

Perhaps it gives him the hebe gebes.

Do you guys change your oil every year because if I waited till I hit 3000 miles I'd be doing an oil change every 10 years looooooool.

A lot depends on build and application of engine. One might be right for you and another might not be. I use Castrol A3/B3 I think it is. Was recommended by Matty.

Ive got nearly 70k miles on my Finch build and running nearly 580 bhp now in my forester useing motul and millers, i dont rip it all the time but i dont baby it either, just when traffic conditions allow and never over 3k revs until warm.

I used mobile 1 to run it in which is i think now is too good and never got the rings seated properly, i was told to use a halfords semi synthetic so it uses oil.

You live and learn... I use a bit of oil.

Yes, yearly changes regardless of mileage since the oil gets oxidated regardless.

NOSSY_89 23 November 2021 12:38 PM

Whats the going rate for RP now.

Vxr2010 23 November 2021 02:51 PM

here is my long 2 pence worth 😂😂
my yearly mileage is divided between four cars the two Fsti being the daily drives , as they are driven fairly regularly i change the oil when it’s needed , i am for oil changes around 7500 miles , unless the oil is looking quite dirty , it works out an oil change is a year and a bit , the oils getting warm when it’s driven so no moisture sitting in it , same set up with my 2 v8 again a change about ever 1.5 years , i won’t stretch an oil change longer than that , an oil debate is something that’s tends to never finish every one does things a different way and does not mean it’s wrong , modern oils have no issues doing 10k between changes ( i feel 10k ) is a bit too long , i don’t do as low a change as 4 or 5 k ( but i understand some people doing that ) as it’s not tracked or driven that hard and changing three fsti oils plus two v8 one taking 6 or 8.2 litres is just not worth it in the big picture for me , a good supplier and a good oil , i use millers cfs 10/40 in four of the cars , i have used rp for a long time as the garage i went to for the v8 used it , as stated above it’s used in supercharged v8 engines producing silly power and was recommended by both the garages that serviced the cars , the garage concerned being very knowledgeable 👍👍 so in short good oil a good supplier and change at sensible intervals or if it’s looking too dirty 👍😂 as it’s a turbo you get more blow by gasses and carbon getting past the piston rings so makes the oil dirtier quicker , the one oil bit i don’t agree with is a 5/?? as it’s way too thin , it’s not enough engine protection and likely to cause more wear plus gets through gaps more easily and gets burnt off more a 10/40 or maybe a 15/? is a much better choice , i got a small puff on start up with a 5/? changed to a 10/40 no more puff 😁 my last fsti did 198k miles with oil changes every 7.5 to 10 k miles , it was rebuilt due to hg failure and is still running now
