Can you recommend a low profile trolley jack and axle stands.
 

With just getting a new car i want to take quite a few things off it to give it a thorough clean, can you recommend a low profile trolley jack, one that ideally comes with a protective pad and some axle stands.

Ive got a Costco account, do any of you use this one ?

I got an Arcan jack from Costco about 4 years ago. It's not the low profile one in your link, it's more a standard profile 2 ton, but I can say that the Arcan quality seems very good for the price point. Built to last for sure. I paid just under £100 for it in total.

It's well heavy, I can't pull it over the drive either as it's a gravel drive. I slide a one inch thick piece of plywood under the car as jacking on gravel isn't ideal as the wheels don't move enough.

I do have one of these jack pucks which I like, they give you a bit of extra lift and protect the welded sill seam, I spray the puck with white grease before use. Get a decent one if you get one, as cheapo ones can split, here's mine :

I would advise against jacking on the seam, even the re-enforced section. Someone has previously made a right mess on about 8" of seam on my car.

The seams are only there for the jack in the boot with the recess in it otherwise you should use the jacking point in the centre next to the sump or the rear diff. I have 5y old SGS 2t jack, jacked it under rear diff and close to full lift car moves to te right ,not really safe ,i hate lifting mechanism on it to.

Horses for courses hence why stated 3 ton jack. 2 ton just about ok for a ride on lawnmower

There's 2ton and 2ton though.

I've had 3 ton jacks fail...either refusing to lift further than half way or leaking down: Draper and Sealey failed after a few years and they have NEVER lifted more than 2ton (front axle on a Land cruiser is about the heaviest and that's about 1.5ton tops). Where my old 2ton taskmaster went for a good decade before it died.

Currently have a Bluepoint SNX2CETJ "Baby beast" low profile rated at 2ton. Lifts my V12 jag by the front subframe with ease. And low enough to get under the Golf's subframe, so happy days. Cost me £228 inc vat. Might get it cheaper but you'll have to chase after a snap on van to get it.

Always use a rubber adapter to jack on the sills. The sills are strong jacking points hence why 2 posts lifts raise the car there, but they are easily folded or dented without shaped pads. Same goes for axle stands, usually less than £10 for a set of pads

You can get a set with an stands to.
deliver guy was so annoyed delivering it.

Iv got the costco one in the link, had it a year or so its great very solid also heavy, works great and the handle doubles as a handy cheater bar.
Iv got a set of 4 6ton stands with pucks the 6ton stands go much higher worth it if your doing a fair bit under there and rock solid

Think the Costco comes up on offer anyway and then for £99

9 strokes ,You will pump it forever,would prefer add ££ for quick one otherwise whats a point, You can use oem.

I've only used ramps to work under the car so far.... Are there any safe places to position axle stands?

Just checked my Costco one it's 6 pumps to full 50cm it's rare I use it to full height, and I don't really think a couple of extra pumps saves much time, comparing a decent trolley jack to a oem scissor jack that can only be used on sills is a bit silly anyway

I'm about to pull the plug on one of these 2, the Costco deal runs out on the 28th Nov so i'd need to be quick on that, which would you choose.
