Central looking not working off fob

Hi so after my bugeye been sat for about 10 years off the road found a problem with the central locking , nothing happens when you press the button on the key ? Tho the button still deactivates the immobilizer ,had tryed changing the battery , basically is the key communicating with the immobilizer but not the central locking ? When you drive the car the doors automatically lock so I know the central looking still works ,does the key need paired with the central locking ? Have seen loads of threads with same problem but no solutions ,cheers

How many buttons on the key, one or two?
Still has UK Sigma M30 alarm fitted?

A single button key usually means that the pcb in the key operates the sigma alarm which then controls the central locking.
You have two immobilisers, one via the transponder chip in the key talking to the Immobiliser ECU and main ECU (red "key" warning light on dash extinguishes when key placed in ignition)
and a second in the sigma alarm that cuts the starter motor.

This would suggest the key is no longer "paired" to the alarm.
Do you know the PIN for the alarm?? (keypad in coin tray drivers right knee or in glove box).
Do you have the sigma alarm users manual?

Programming keys to Sigma Alarm system....

- Arm and then Disarm the system (using a working Radio Key or PIN).

- Within 30 seconds of disarming, type into the keypad- *17856*91*n# (where n is the total number of keys required to work the system)

- Press each Radio Key briefly in turn (the dash board LED will flash and the siren beep each time)

- Once the nth Radio Key has been programmed, you should be able to arm/disarm the system using any of the Radio Keys programmed.

It is essential that all Radio Keys required to operate the system are programmed together. Any keys not present during the programming sequence above will no longer operate the system.

If this still does not work, then it could be a problem with the unit's receiver board.

Copy of user manual attached.

The button microswitch tends to wear with age and can leak dialectric grease. They can be replaced.
Subaru used to do a replacement pcb kit for the single button key.
https://www.facebook.com/jdmsubarukeys does replacement keys for UK cars as well.

Cheers thanks for this, that was going to be my next question were can I get a replacement key as the spare has a broken button and the bottom half shell is a mess

Alarm PIN, you could try Subaru for the original linked to your alarm unit serial number, but if it's been changed since new, a Sigma/Toad/Scorpion alarm technician can probably change it with a programmer.
Sigma now part of Scorpion Automotive. https://www.scorpionauto.com/product...-immobilisers/

"I believe" Subaru do an upgrade path to the equivalent current S series alarm.
