TD05 20g or replacement

It seems the TD05 has chewed up the up pipe and needs repairing or replacing. Are the cheap TD05 20gs on eBay to be avoided? £130-£140 seems too cheap. Any other alternatives. Looking for around 400 bhp top end but would like something less laggy.

Never tried one, but the speed those things spin up wouldn't want anything super cheap. Some Chinese stuff is awful. Why not just buy the char/cartridge unless the outside is damaged aswell.

How had the turbo damaged the up pipe?

Well, this is how the mechanic explained it. I’m not sure. Blue smoke and a terrible barking noise at start up around turbo area. Sounds like a tractor. I have a replacement manifold and up pipe if it needs it. Car was kept by the coast not being driven much. Could be corrosion seized them together? Probably best get turbo refurbed.

No sat on a drive way and barely used. Front and rear calipers were badly seized. Bodywork is in good nick though. Sea air not helped.

If you have to do a cheapy repair , Id go with the Kinguwa , at least these are Taiwan manufacture and they do make a better attempt to keep tolerances / balance the shaft.
But Id agree with others :notworthy after my PRC TD05 16G experience sourced from CX motors in California , you get what you pay for.

However if I were keeping the car , Id go with a more modern design turbo at least one with a ball race bearing.
for example a variant of a RCM400 Advanced Automotive , perhaps a Blouch XTR ( UK equiv here >2018 SC42 ) or a Garret GTX xxxxR Gen 2. all of these will cost new around £1500
but you get the performance and reliability. You could also try ringing one of the engine tuners ,
they always do upgrades for guys moving from 400bhp to 500 plus an you might be able to pick up a good used one for 40%- 50%.
