UK speedo cluster into JDM car? How easy?

Hi all,

I have always had a bit of a bug bear with the JDM speedo in my Spec C, in that they read to 260kph. (its the red defi cluster)
So obviously once converted to mph they effectively read 260mph, which as any JDM owner can probably vouch makes it pretty hard to keep an eye on your speed when trying stay around 20-30mph.
The numbers are pretty tightly spaced and there is hardly any movement between those speeds so low down, so you end up looking at your speed longer then making a quick glance.

So question is, if i was able to source a set of Defi style UK clocks from a UK Hawkeye

1) Are they a straight plug and play swap (hoping the plugs would be the same behind)
2) Will they read correctly in MPH (i'm hoping yes, with just the need to remove the convertor thats currently connected to my JDM clocks)
3) Will my mileage transfer to the new clocks? (as i'm not sure whether the mileage is stored on the clocks themselves or read from somewhere else?)

Any help or guidance from someone who has actually done this swap would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mel

Its been a very very long time since I look at this but from what I remember.

Yes
No
No

I think You need the JDM kph to mph connected for the new speedo to continue reading in mph. I remember seeing inserts for the clocks but they weren't cheap, cost of speedo at the time. If you want your mileage moved over then you will need to use one of those mileage correction services.

Hope that helps

Thanks - I have the kph to mph convertor already connected to my JDM cluster, so can continue to use that.
Interestingly i have been told the opposite that UK clocks would receive the correct signal without the need for a convertor, as they are already calibrated for MPH. I suppose its a plug it in a see job.

Mileage yep i think thats the only way to get that transferred.

Would a HUD display be any good?...............I find it works for me, just a thought!.

jdm cluster will show in km without converter
UK one will show in km to plus in miles or vice versa if You prefer;)
