I wonder if 67,000 miles is too much for a 348tb. If it were a porsche 993 I wouldn't be so worried, but I have this niggling doubt that this could be trouble.

Assuming this car has an impeccable service history, with cambelts etc just done, do you think the mileage is not an issue - because it is a very cheap RHD if so.

Remember an article from a year or so ago about running middle-aged Ferraris -- it said you should budget a minimum of £1000 per year for routine services and consumables (brakes, tyres, cambelts) and that's just as a sunny days / weekend plaything.

Of course, it doesn't include engine rebuilds ... and remember there's eight of everything ...

Saw something a while back about buying 2nd hand supercars like that.

Sum up was basically only buy if you can afford to buy 2 - they can cost that much :eek:

Not sure what the 348 engines are like, but I know the F355 engines have lots of titanium/magnesium components.. which while light and strong, don't age too well. The older (like 20yr old) Ferraris will run and run (albeit with constant tune-ups) whereas I can't see modern Ferraris fareing so well. (or so says Damax Race Engineering who race-prep 348/355/360s)

BTW: I had a straight-thru exhaust fitted to my F355 today, which has upped the sound levels to circa 118dB. Fark me, it's loud.

Remember attending a track day where a 100db limit was in place. F50 turned up and smashed that limit by 40db. Standard system to.

I know of a 348tb that has covered over 110,000 miles the last time i drove it, it is still running well afaik. Dont know what maintenance its had to have though apart from new clutches every 15,000 miles or so, new belts (v expensive) and new pipes.

I wonder what sort of milages those F355's that they use at Snetterton for the supercar experience have on them now.

They are all LHD imports so I imagine they had a few kms on them when they bought them (3 years ago?) and they will have been driven hard!

When I drove one, back in '99 I remember that they said that the Vipers were more of a problem mechanically as they would go through a set of disks in a day on the track!

Use to live in Hale(Cheshire), there was a guy I saw regularly around in a black 348 competizione (spelling ?), used it every day, and thrapped the nuts off it, it was always dirty and sounded like it was cooling down from a mad thrap.

Its well wierd seeing one being used as a daily driver.

I agree it's wierd seeing them being used like escorts - but hey, if you get a sorted one and maintain it, it strikes me that you get italian exotica for less than a new mondeo sport thing whatever they are called. It's a gamble on things like gearboxes not going bad.... no more so than a tvr though I think.

Doesn't Lex Luthor in early years Superman drive a black one... interesting choice for the programme makers considering the other options they had...

I've read that it's sometimes better to go for one with low but not ultra-low mileage.. They need to be run frequently to keep them going... If you leave them for months on end they should ideally be stored in dehumidified conditions.. and just imagine where all that oils is when you come to start up time.. certainly not where you need it to be...

BTW.. love that new oil add with the guy turning the starter and the engine going OUCH OUCH

Yes - thanks Neil, seen that article. I found it interesting how cheap certain variants are compared to others. Ok, a 250 GTO is amazing but when you actually look at the engine, chassis etc, it is actually remarkably close to certain other Ferraris, which can be had for mondeo money. Weird old business this classic car market these days. Jag E-types are another example of an 80's £100k car that can now be enjoyed for peanuts these days.

Found a spanking LHD example today - I had a very snobbish attitude from Greenlight and Privelege - "oh no sir! We don't even consider imports unless you've driven LHD for more than a year and can prove it. And servicing is sooo expensive sir, we don't consider it...".

Why is this country so flippin difficult to get basic things done -I should move to Italy - at least my car won't get keyed and I can insure it.... :(
