Classic v5 tmic options
Hi peeps, have a v5 Sti as a project, the top mount intercooler is looking very
Worse for wear.. bent fins galore and rust staining coming through on the body i doubt that I’m gonna find a half decent Sti v5/6 intercooler,,, I want to keep this standard but thinking I may have to go with a Newage Sti intercooler but I don’t want to take away from the standard look... in 2 minds with what to do. Any thoughts. |
Congratulations mate. I know you were thinking about buying it a few weeks back, assuming its the same one.
You could refurb the intercooler or you could buy a new one. Subaru should still sell them. |
Newage wrx and sti intercooler can be made to fit with ease and looks like its standard
Id a newage wrx one on my v5 turbo2000 a good few years back |
As performance recore the standard intercooler and they do a great job from what I’m seen

Yes NOSSY it the same v5 Sti I was thinking of buying a few weeks back ended up taking it need a good tidy up to start with and will take things from there as said the intercooler is a sorry state.... I see above someone mentioned that as performance re core and I guess refurb your old intercoolers this would be a good option if it’s not to pricey may have to drop Them a quick email see what costs are in involved |

Id a newage wrx one on my v5 turbo2000 a good few years back this maybe a option then, ideally I’d like to keep it original but if all else fails and I cant get the original revamped then I imagine I will more than likely fit a Newage Sti intercooler. |

thanks for the heads up with as performance doing re cores do you have any idea on what sort of price they charge this would be my first choice may have to ping them a email see what they say thanks again |

No worries, I’m not sure on price tbh but the core itself is uprated compared to the original core so definitely a good upgrade, I’m not
on Facebook myself but I know if you scroll though there Facebook page pictures and details are on there, they also port the original manifolds which is something I want to get done at some point. |

I asked for a quote of one company, wasn't too bad.
|
I sent them a email via messenger on fb
was quoted £400 there abouts not sure if that’s suppose to be a good price seems alittle steep though IMO |
Think I was quoted £300 something, but put me off as same company was selling used Subaru intercoolers on eBay.
Surely you would refurbish them first. But they were selling them used for high price. It's like you owning a car valeting service, but selling dirty used cars. Doesn't give a good impression. |
Put a picture of your intercooler up. It might be salvageable. You would be surprised what a bit of fin fixing and paint can do. ;)

Absolutely battered :brickwall don’t understand how people let them run into
this sort of condition, I know the core is fragile but can people not just take abit more care |
Mate that is definitely savable, sort out the bent fins and a lick of paint. You're good to go.
|
That is shot as soon as you try to straighten the fins there just going to break off, look in the corners the fins have already gone.

I was thinking gloves and heat to stop the fins from breaking off. There are a few different methods for straightening fins, some easier on the fins than others. :) |
If you break them then minor you were going to replace any way. You manage to fix it and you're sorted.
Worth a shot really |
