My new ride.

My new car.
BMW 335d xdrive.

The photos are as it came into the dealers before the alloys were refurbed, valeted etc.
Will post some better ones up when I actually get round to cleaning it properly, not easy in this ****ty weather.

I had been looking for a one in white for ages with the adaptive suspension and folding mirrors, this one ticked the boxes nicely.
It really does have some nice optional extras.

I have only owned this for 3 weeks and I am still getting used to it, it is quiet and sedate for normal driving, stick it in Comfort or Eco plus and you really wouldn’t think you are driving anything special.
Until you put it into Sport mode that is, Christ this car is quick, a very short burst and you are well into license losing territory.
After owning two Scoobs I know as well as any of you, you soon get used to the power. These can be mapped to 360BHP with just a bigger intercooler, so I am told.
Maybe something to consider when it starts to feel a bit slow.

My first mod is the black front kidney grilles, don't like the silver trim, and then the proper OEM M Sport black sill decals.

looks lovely, pop it into velocity tuning for a remap and gearbox software

An0n0m0us 03 February 2021 11:09 AM

I looked at these for ages before getting my Merc - decided I did too many short trips for a diesel. A remap at a reputable tuner will see these hit 0-60 in 3.9 secs and huge torque. The bimmer forum for the 335d is very popular and making these very fast whilst maintaining the standard look is what many go for to get the ultimate sleeper. However I really like them with the full M kit on them, think they look great.

I can see the logic in that, stick a 318d badge on the back and who would know?
People just don't seem to try it on with this car like they used to when I had the Scoobs, I used to tend to be a bit wary around white BMW's too. :D

What a lovely car I keep being drawn to these but the estate version hopefully when I can find a house with a garage the scoob can be chucked into the garage and can have one of these on the drive

I decided I also like the full m sport kit on, gets you a bit more attention but hell, I got used to that after years of Scoob ownership.
Also ditched the fcucking awful runflat tyres for a set of GoodYear Eagle F1 Asy 5's. :thumb:

That’s a nice transformation.

It is with great regret that I have just sold this.
I got a new job, which is virtually on my doorstep 12 months ago, so went from doing 10k miles per year to just 2.5k.

As much as I really loved that car and indeed had plans to get it up to the magic 400BHP mark, it just wasn't the right car for the mileage I am now doing.

My new car isn't quite as fast, isn't quite as refined and isn't quite as comfortable.
It is however, very cheap to run. :D

Best thing is, I get 29.2 mpg with this. Used to get 30+ with the BMW and nearly 50 on a motorway run.

My intention was to run around in this until I see something I fancy, I like the Mini Cooper S JCW ALL4 and also the new Formentor VZ2.
I saw an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio the other day and what a beautiful car, looks amazing in red.:)

I'm only doing 3000 or so miles per year, so not really sure if a decent car is worth the outlay. :wonder:
So for now the Sandero does the Job, take the wife's Mini Cooper if we go anywhere involving a motorway.

stockcar 25 March 2023 09:07 AM

guessing its not actually doing 29.2mpg then???

Brun 25 March 2023 11:55 PM

Hang on. You’re doing 7.5k miles less and you buy a sh1tter. Surely now is the time to scratch the V8 itch?

I didn’t BUY it, I haven’t taken complete leave of my sanity. It was the wife’s old car that she had owned since 2017. Got it as a cheap runaround for shopping etc.

I have always been of the opinion that a car is something to be driven to be enjoyed, not to look pretty on the driveway. I do regularly look at different cars on the Autotrader but like I say, I find it difficult to justify spending a fortune to do 3k a year 🥲

Norman Dog 09 December 2023 04:58 PM

I did try with the Dacia, but I just needed something a little more powerful at the end of the day.
It was like saying goodbye to an old friend.

Used SANDERO STEPWAY DACIA 0.9 Tce Ambiance 5Dr [Start Stop] 2015 | Lookers

Norman Dog 09 December 2023 05:28 PM

The Dacia's replacement

Duke Nismo RS. My new cheap(ish) runaround.

Yes, total marmite car, you either like them or hate them.
I like the higher driving postition and the fact that it has 215BHP, once your moving it is quite a fun car to drive.
Bad points are, it does torque steer a bit and definitely no traffic light Grand Prix winner.

I copied these pictures from the dealers website.
The tyre picture showing the Continental Eco Contact 6 was a bit of a con, yes it did have ONE, along with 2 x Nexans and 1 Triangle.
Oh well, 4 x Goodyear VECTOR 4SEASONS GEN 3 on there now. :thumb:

Not a bad car for the missus

StuInaRB320 17 December 2023 08:24 PM

I have a F11 (estate) 535d from 2015, really really good car, best I've ever owned. So quiet yet so fast when it wants to be. As it's the 5 series estate it's a total barge but just eats up the mileage. They're not cheap when they need consumable parts replacing like tyres and brakes, and the rear air suspension was £3.3k to get fixed 2 years ago, but so practical and so quick! No idea what I would replace it with that ticks all of the same boxes (power, practicality, economy), for my daily so will keep it going until it stops working, Not as quick as my 330s, but zero drama for the power. 313bhp standard, 460nm torques, about 38mpg on average over 3 years and 32,000 miles. It is RWD so can be very twitchy on wet roundabouts, but lots of fun with it!
