95K Mapped Hawkeye Worth Considering
Hi All,
I'm a new member to the forum but have had 3 Scooby's so far (1999 classic and two blobeyes one with the PPP). I'm currently looking for another Scooby and have seen a Hawkeye mapped to 350BHP with 95k on the clock. All my previous models have had relatively low mileage and apart from Andy Carr mapping one of the blobeyes to around 260bhp they were pretty standard. What are your thoughts for the Hawkeye as I've not owned a 2.5litre model before?, am I asking for trouble with 350bhp and 95k on the clock. I've not seen the car yet as it's 1 1/2hrs hours from me. Obviously condition, service history and how it's been looked after play a huge part but I would very much value your thoughts, is it worth a drive out? With thanks JB |
Has it been forged. Far too many of the 2.5s from stock have let go.
|
Hi Nossy
Thanks for the reply, the advert doesn't mention anything about being forged so I assume not. JB |
When you mention the 2.5 engine it opens up a can of worms im afraid, but if you even it up there's probably way more that don't have problems compared to those that do, it's pot luck it seems as to if your lucky or unlucky so to speak and end up facing a rebuild, there's plenty of engines that let go mapped or unmapped, high miles or not, obviously a forged engine gives you peace of mind in a way, me personally i own a 06 Hawk WRX that's low miles i suppose for the year, 68k on the clock, been mapped running 330/332 and thus far had no issues touch wood.

Thanks Ted, sounds a pretty good summary.

Is it a STI or WRX. Depends on price. What I will say is you get some really good torque from the 2.5s. If you want to go for it try and put some money aside for a rebuild.
Not trying to be negative about it or that they are pointless just letting you know that there have been far too many reports of ringland and the heads lifting. The 2ltr isn't bullet proof either and can let go. |
It is a GB270 WRX
|
Like Nossy said putting away some money just incase is probably sound advice or if not search for one already forged and built by a decent engine builder.

It wouldn't happen to be the one at motorhub would it.

I'm very sure that isn't a 270 mate. It hasn't got the seats or spoilers.
|
I did wonder if it was a 270 with it having the STI seats, seems a strange thing to swap. The dealer did confirm it was a a 270 but how knowledgeable is he with Scooby's??

Now if you had a normal hawk WRX putting in STI seats is understandable. But when you have special edition seats like that it doesn't make sense swapping them out. People do but you get what I mean lol. |
It's a WRX with sti seats and prodrive wheels and definitely not a gb270, if you zoom in on interior pics you can make out reg plate on set of keys fella, reg is YX06 HNZ.

Thanks guys, really helpful.
Ted - where did you get this info from please? |
I just stuck the reg plate on Google and it came back on that cazana.com page that i posted up, like was said earlier don't think t dealer even knows what he's actually trying to sell:lol1:
|
Think I'll be giving it a miss then, back to searching. Thanks for your time guys, I appreciate your help.

End of the day it's a dressed up WRX and worth around the 5k mark if it wasn't bein advertised by a dealer, take your time looking and don't pull the pin on the first one that floats your boat so to speak, always plenty of people on here willing to help you out with any questions:thumb:
