Cars on your hit list..

I only have now:-

1. Jaguar XJS
2. Alpine 110

Both out of my bracket at the moment. But utterly nothing else floats my boat at the moment

Absolutely nothing. Sums up the car market. Boring. Even M stuff BM. Boring.

Baby fast little Mercs and BMW's. Just atrocious

Alpine a110 is awesome, I nearky bought one but was too scared to part with the money for a Renault.

WR1367 14 July 2020 08:22 PM

Would like to keep the WR1 and M5 v10 in the garage

C63 AMG

The dopey cow who reversed into my wife’s car then drove off is top of my hit list. But after that.

1. liquid Yellow phase 2, 3L V6 Renault Clio that has been well tuned. I owned a P2 V6
Illiad Blue & I knew I shouldn’t of sold it!

2. Porsche 930 (not likely though)

3. A well tuned Mini Cooper S Works GP

4. A well tuned early Capri or Mk2 Escort.

5. A well tuned Renault GT5 Raider.

6. BMW E30 M3. (Find it hard to believe the styling will ever not be cool).

7. Eleanor GT500 from “Gone in 60 seconds”. After the film was released you could buy an import kit car built up for around 22k! Those are now easy 3 times that.

8. Sierra Cosworth RS. Must have Whale tail! (you could spec without! Why?).

9. Early TVRs going cheap now (for good reason).

10. Carlton Lotus. Not quick to 60mph but still a power house.

You can have most of the above between 10 & 40k. Loads of people on here recently talking about spending near the upper end of this so not completely unrealistic.

1. Is quite affordable to buy so long as its a coupe. Problem is finding a rust free one and the money needed to get it to drive properly. Add poor quality ‘uprated/performance’ replacement parts in to the mix.

So the ideal XJ-S is actually one made out of suspension/brake parts taken from a DB7. 1995 body shell (best rust proofing). XJR6 engine with matching getrag 5speed. Or (if it has to be V12) a engine taken from a X305 (last XJ12), which will use high impedance injectors and coil pack ignition allowing easier/better aftermarket EFI solutions and has a standard chevy/GM bell housing bolt pattern so a Tremec gearbox like a T56 will fit or anything else that fits a small block chevy (never liked the shift feel/throw of the old Getrags). Once all that’s been put together you’d have something that could be hustled around like a e34 M5...but a e39 M5 would probably outrun it.

Two things on my list at the mo that I need to get out of my system are:

1960/70’s Elan, probably a +2 for the legroom with a spyder chassis for the rigidity and possibly a newer engine for everyday drive ability, although a cosworth BD variant (Rs1600/caterham super7 etc. ) would be fun and confuse the purists.

Citroen cx25 gti turbo2 with the leather interior, maybe swayed by a turbo 2 prestige if it’s right. Of course I’ll wind up the boost :lol1:

But of course open to persuasion of other offerings; A tidy Kubota B3000 with a cab, 4WD, hydrostatic, front loader, belly mower, flail mower and dutch harrows etc. would come in handy right now.

Scooby-doo97 30 July 2020 10:04 PM

Newer cars just don't do it for me so I hope older cars won't get wiped out completely. I'd like to own an E30 M3, E39 M5, RS6 (C5) and a 964.

not for long - how are your roads going to be funded?!

I’d prefer proper car over a go cart too

There is no road tax, its vehicle excise on emissions. Roads are funded centrally. We all pay for roads through other forms of taxation

Think 80's early 90's glory years for hot cars.

Ford XR2, XR2i, XR3 ad 3i, 4x4, Cosworth, Renault 5 GT Turbo, Clios, , Citroen AX GT, Metro MG and MG Turbo, Cannot forget Peugot 205 GTI 205 1.6 and 1.9 and the great 309's., Golf GTI of course, Citoen BX GTi. Just millions of ace cars then

Only ever drove 5 GT Turbo (quick I thought!) and MG Metro Turbo ( my own-slow but ace!)

In the last 30 years, for me, the excitement factor has gone. Anyone get excited over a Peugot GTi now? Nope.lol.. Quick golf 35 million squid. Bugger that

World of hot fun cars /fun cars gone ;(

ALi-B 03 August 2020 01:37 PM

Modern stuff is just too fast LOL!

What fun is a car that does 60mph in 2nd gear?

Brum,
shift (or exhaust fart if DSG/PDK/flappy paddle etc).
Brum,
shift (fart).
Oh speed limit, that’s your 5seconds of fun over! :(

And everything weighs nearly 1500kg....my Mk2 polo breadvan was 750kg! Mild tuning and modding the rotor arm to remove the rev limiter would see the needle on the speedo go off the scale, it could out run my mate’s Polo Coupe S with the same engine and an extra gear :lol1: Max speed was accompanied by the silencer banging underneath due to the wind buffeting under the car...an early version of the trunk monkey telling me to slow down :D It had unassisted brakes needing clutch foot effort to stop, and it had a nasty habit of going into snap-understeer in the wet thanks to the Road Champ tyres. Fun...in a life threatening kind of way.

Got excited over a Top Trumps Pantera on The Grand Tour £200,000 bloody what!! Bloody hell

Loved their Countach Testarrossa bit. Couldn't say no to either of those star cars

lozgti1 08 August 2020 10:06 PM

Thought only a few of us car nuts knew about Panteras. Clearly no!

I've always fancied an R34 Skyline GTR but with prices going in only direction, I can't see myself ever having one. Have considered R32, R33 and R35 but these wouldn't really hit the spot in the same way. Maybe an escort cossie as that was my childhood dream.

Tesla Cybertruck
Range Rover Sport SVR

More a reflection of where I live and what I do these days I reckon. I have a 13 year old RR Sport as my daily, it does everything I need well and its great for hustling twisty b-roads at NSL. Not much to be gained by getting a rocket car around here. However, SVR as a second car for longer journeys, tidy occasions and to satisfy the acceleration needs, then the Cybertruck to replace the existing RRS as a work horse as well as being more eco-friendly.
