Whats this pipe
 
Hi im an old member revisiting but i cannot remember my details its been so long but anyway ive just had my 03 sti gearbox rebuilt and since collecting the car its ticking over wierd which the code reader points to the icv but when ive looked over the car ive noticed a pipe from the top of the gearbox not connected to anything and im wonding if anyone could shed some light as to what it is and if its ment to be connected as im assuming it is

Ive circled where it connected to the gearbox

I think it’s a breather pipe and not supposed to be connected to anything. I might be wrong though. I can check mine tomorrow

Do we know what it does? When i get home from work il see if i can put it back where it should be but would this cause the car to idle funny and throw an engine management code up

As per the opposeforces image its is "Hose-Air Breather Trasnsmission".
Unlikely to cause a DTC, although in its present position may be kinked and not allowing the box to breathe.

After a closer look mine doesnt seem to have anything for the other end to attach to im guessing as long as its not kinked though this will be ok?

It doesn't connect to anything, it just sits in its clip and bracket with the open end unobstructed - it's a vent.
