Worrying times but the Chinese (and Japanese etc) are better at containment than most other countries as isolation and mask wearing is inherent to their modern culture.

The Cruise ship quarantine must be frustrating and scary to endure.

Was reading up stories of chinese workers ( mining ) ariving in African countries with no quarantine whatsoever , thats scary

8 coaches of potentially infected people have just been put in quarantine about 5 miles from my house.
reports say its 105 people but that seems a lot of coaches for 105.

Drivers and coppers who escorted them off the coaches and into the building were not wearing protection. I guess these coppers will go on to tackle crime and meet endless innocent people who they could infect.

I cant understand why they didn't keep people at the airport.

Unless these people were in direct contact, or they sneezed or coughed on them, then there is pretty much zero risk of of infection

Given the severity of it seems to be rather mild, china's reaction is a bit puzzling, or is it? The pics of the hospital looks more like a prison, bar'd windows etc, and with them subduing the population, is it a case of them getting control of the population. After all they have built plenty of 'reeducation' centres for the Muslim population.

Well in the space of a little over a month since the start of this thread, it's spread to every continent in the world, over 2000 confirmed cases in Europe, 100 in the US, 51 in the UK, in fact over 90,000 worldwide with over 3000 deaths. This thing spreads fast, even if it is "just flu". I noticed whilst shopping this evening the shelves were looking a bit sparse in certain items.....

Oh well, looks like those that work in London that have decided to live in the sticks and commute via air will have no choice but to work from home now Flybe have gone.

Just need to shut down a few other commuter airlines and a couple of mainlines then the capital will be cut off from its distant-commuter workforce.

Nope, it’s become a wildly shared attitude shared by those who work and live near to each other. The locals in Edinburgh call them WiLLiEs (Work in London, Live in Edinburgh) :lol1: But the phenomenon is a like a disease, it’s spread from its central source to form clusters in towns and villages near regional airports and mainline stations. You know you are in one of these towns by the massive jump in house prices, builders infilling everywhere and perpetually clogged station car parks.

If there was a mass uncontrolled outbreak of the virus in London, chances are we could see regional outbreaks clustering in these commuter towns and villages...it could even be used to make a accurate commuter map of the UK :D

Sad fact is though, the loss of regional operators like flybe will also cause a loss of transport links to other places too, such as from a local airport to a hub such as Amsterdam or Dublin which gives global access without using Heathrow.

I'm just starting to detect the first signs of our media outlets gently back-peddling from their 'let's try to build our readership/viewer numbers by deliberately using emotional words like 'pandemic' (because it sounds dramatic) and 'epicentre' of the outbreak (like it's an earthquake or tsunami) and 'another big increase' in cases (despite it being less than 200 cases in 63,000,000 people).
'The media', (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and of course the print media, led by the truly awful Daily Mail) will, in the days to come, attempt to sell themselves as the very people who 'protected us the by 'informing us'.
Please remember 'people' these are the outlets that sensationalise and deliberately misinform us. If anything really serious happens they'll do so again. Very dubious and potentially dangerous organisations!

we're talking of nothing more than a bad cold/ flu outbreak! It's a disgrace that we're misled by these writers who know exactly what they're doing!

BTW. I just spent 3 days in London. Didn't see any use of face masks even on crowded tube trains. Everything just as normal. It would seem that Londoners, at least, are no mugs. Keep calm, wash your hands and carry on!:D
