Trying to identify is my engine ej255 or ej257

Hi Guys new to the site just trying to ask the age old question trying to identify which is my car ej255 or Ej257 here are the codes I found on the head near the intake manifold on top was 07.. Underneath was LH(lefthand) b07 and on the far side underneath it was b02 any ideas

Is the engine code not on the VIN plate?

It is Lewis but engine was swapped out for a 2.5 with classic heads

Most classics are 2.0L so asking about head casting marks doesn't seem to equate and the ancilliaries won't match.

The difference between EJ255 and EJ257 short blocks is in the internals and subsequent higher compression ratio due to different pistons. The bare block itself is the same.

Have you checked it has the EJ25 cast mark on the block?

Cheers don any idea what compression ratio wrx vr sti... She is classic heads I have seen quite a few done this way tbh

I spent the last 40mins trying to find out what Don just rattled off. :lol1:

I did find a thread stating that the EJ257 will have AB on both the casting halfs where they mate up, Is that right Don or are they the same P/N?

The EJ25 stamp Don refers to is circled red below and the AB stamp in the blue - if thats correct. I'll let Don confirm/deny it :)

CR between the WRX and STI is different but that's a moot point because you're running 2.0 heads, not 2.5's.

I found this on NASIOC. The EJ255 in the WRX ran a slightly higher CR due to the different piston dish.

I had to do the same Lewis 😂😂 I will check see what that stamp says on mine I'm doing compression test on it later on in the week so should get some sort of answer either way cheers lads

The stamp ringed in blue AFAIK only relates to the grade of pistons fitted (size wise) (Grade A /GradeB) from the factory. (and possible mains clearances)

EDIT: Bore size rather than piston grade.
