Ej205 replacement
 

Hi guys think I'm gonna get a second hand ej205 engine block from mb developments the only place Id trust to buy one from, is there anything I'll need to change when I start to swap all the ancillaries over to the new block like gaskets for example? Cheers guys

did your engine fail? if so why?

do you mean your buying a long engine with block and heads? which year impreza do you have?

The head gasket has gone and the engine has very high mileage, so I'm thinking about buying a good condition ej205 long block complete with heads , and swapping all my old engine inlet pipe turbo ect over to the new block to drop in, was just wondering is there anything like gaskets or seals to change when swapping everything over. The impreza is 2003 wrx

when i bought a long engine from matty i changed the following

full cambelt kit including water pump
all rocker cover seals including the half moon seals
inlet manifold gasket
front and rear oil seals
exhaust header (manifold) gaskets
cross over pipe o-ring kit
oil pump
spark plugs
coolant
oil
oil filter
made sense to me whilst the engine was out to do as much as i could at the time. also whilst it was out im sure we changed the clutch and flywheel for uprated items and inspected the hoses in the engine bay to see what condition they were in.
i bought all the parts from ICP import car parts apart from the oil and filter which i got from roger clark motorsport

other companies are available @shreksta ................

depending on exact age / spec car it came from they can suffer ringland failure and regardless its going to require decent head gaskets, seals, etc. to swap your heads across

^^^ this. The old 2.5's do seem to like eating headgaskets and pistons :(.
Would it be worth instead of spending money having the engine out and going for a replacement block of unknown quality and condition, having your old one rebuilt and forged?
End of the day it's going to cost you a fair amount to swap unless you're doing all the work yourself anyway.

Cheers for the advice guys I've got mechanical experience so gonna try diy as much as I can to save money and learn, I think wrx are definitely an enthusiasts car the amount of people that do the work for themselves 😂
