I don’t think Daz made that on his front mount set up? It’s not the size of the turbo what cause lag it’s the bits that go with it that make it spoil nice .

why not just run your engine to 450bhp and if it breaks get it rebuilt then?

Rebuild costs are not affordable for me...as from my conversations is £4k upwards

I will be having another chat with Bob tommrow..

Think i will run close to that...car is not going be used or abused much...

There is a turbo on my second post for £1k which is a potential I think

Did I see a post from you that you are in Hinkley? Cant seem to find it...

I drive past there 3 days a week to go work...in my work Focus.....lol

stevebt 23 July 2019 08:28 PM

You need something with a billet wheel. The uk car only revs to 70000rpm and you will end up fitting a turbo that won’t come on song till high 4000rpms. Then spend more trying to make it spool better instead.of just getting the right spec turbo in the first place.

when I was looking at turbos for my car I looked at a stock position turbo and asked API about them and he warned me away from the model I wanted as it was a dated turbo.

I'd love to see a graph for that Steve as my Front Mount Turbo setup spooled like a dremel, I'd be very surprised if you were making that level of boost before that did.

Turbovin 23 July 2019 09:05 PM

Leave it as it is if you can't afford a rebuild. It won't last forever at that level.

I agree, it may be fine at 420 ish but its certainly putting it under alot more stress, which clutch would you be using for that power level?

I say stick to around 350-360 with quick spool and enjoy it,you have your 600bhp m5 for the power cravings.

Here's a graph from my old 2.0 with a vf35 and a few usual goodies,it spoiled like a stabbed rat.

Leaving it is not an option...car at the moment is slow as chips...maybe a bigger turbo some mods will made a difference...but I dont think there will be much difference between 320bhp and 380bhp? Unless I am wrong?

However I think I can get a bigger turbo..then build up slowly...in stages..

Only trying to help mate, you say you cant afford a rebuild yet your pushing for more power, you gotta be realistic buddy. Chances are you will be fine as long as your block is in good health and you stick a new cambelt kit/oil pump on etc just have some funds ready for if it ever failed. Another option if it fails is to drop I a used sti motor from mattyB@mbdevelopments on here, around 1400 quid and will be a sound motor as he only breaks very good condition cars.

Anyway........tell me more about your m5, pre lci or not? Std/tuned?

What are the rebuild costs? As I have seen these for near £3k upwards...I guess it's something to save up for..and I guess if I do end up keeping the scooby and enjoy driving it on the odd occasion.. maybe worth a rebuild one day..

M5 is LCi.. standard...under extended warranty...and want to keep it that way...lol...over 3 yrs. near £28k of warranty work...but think this maybe going soon...

Scoob I just got as I moved away from them many years back...and it was only after I bought it..thought...if gone back to the dark ages...lol no trip...no miles left in the tank...lol

It was a choice between the scooby or my brothers TTrs stage 1...but now I understand why he has very little Lag at lower rpms...its a 2.5L..

A pic...

Ah apologies matey I believe we have already chatted about your m5 as I remember the insane amount of warranty work done on it.

As for rebuild costs I cant see you getting much change from £3.5k for a standard rebuild but then for an extra £1.5k it would be silly not to upgrade to forged rods and pistons.

johno01 24 July 2019 07:35 AM

By the sound of things Sam you've made a huge mistake buying THIS car, for zero lag etc you should've went for a fully forged 2.5. Did the car feel slow on the test drive? Maybe get it on a rolling road to see what exactly is happening. My old blob sti had best of everything syvecs, sc46,gt spec headers etc..mapped by pat at scoobyclinic and it was running 450 but was laggy. That was on a standard 2.0 litre like you have now so there's really not much you can do without sacrificing spool to gain the figures your after. You've said you don't have the funds for 2.1 rebuild which would slightly help. Don't want to sound all doom and gloom but that's the way it is unfortunately mate.

Thinking no mistake...car is slow at the moment.. at I dont seem to have much power past 5500rpm...sp when I do drop gear..its no much I get specially if I end up near 3500rpm on a gear drop..

2.1 may come one day...but will take it to where I can now..then deal with the rest later...

Cars been in the garage since I got it..lol

A nice stance on the Subaru.
As for power wait till you go to Thwaites and have a chat with Mark and see what your options are..Big power is not cheap, run it as it is and do some hard saving for the big build. Good luck !

Sorry put this in the wrong place

Going to start with a health checks and some advise..and see how they can help me going forward..

I do have many invoices from TDR from years back...car used to live somewere around Warwick in the past...

I wanted to use Bob Rawl for my mapping as he has helped me over the last few weeks...

Would make more sense to use mark @ thwaites for mapping, he is local and has his own dyno

What company makes the s42 turbos?

Is this American based?

Blouch make the turbos and yes American based, I think the sc range is a tweaked version of their dominator series but I may ne wrong.
There has been issues with the exhaust housing cracking but I think it was a few years ago now.

I was speaking to Mark and he has recommended the sc42.. and you are right would make more sense to get a local mapper to do the work...however will not rule out Bob for now..

http://www.bptstore.com/ they dont list the sc42 only dominator series...Mark did say I could get them from US

Wonder which one it would be - could the s42 just rebadged

LewisScoob 26 July 2019 01:30 PM

SC is a scoobyclinic marketed blouch turbo. hence the SC. SC dont sell the 42 anymore as far as I know. They do a SC42+ though. Rated for up to ~450hp with similar spool as the SC42. I know this because i've one sitting in a box ready to go on my engine.

I was thinking of picking up one from the states..as I am there soon..

Maybe the range has changed?

I see... Well in that case, the one I have, I believe is the Dominator 1.5XT-R
http://www.bptstore.com/Subaru-WRXST...rger_p_25.html

I have no idea why their hp ratings are so high. The must be running E85 or 2.5's or both lol

forced performance is worth a look then ,, I had one of there RED turbos and it made 530bhp fairly easy so one of there smaller ones would work well

yes You bought wrong car, You should go with jdm 2.0 where engine turbo and gearbox ratio make a difference, plus quick rack and few other parts
vf twinscroll turbos kick from 3.2k rpm's till 8k where forged 2.5 with laggy single scrolls moves from 4k till 6.5k
thats mean You have 1s to change a gear with 2.5l before You hit rev limiter
sc42-46 comes with plastic parts, You will cook it on first track day,
clinic turbos have 7cm housing ,us turbos comes with 8cm
Rawle could cook Your ecu and lambda- raggydoo tread
use TDR and no one else
Your 2.0 UK headers are good for 400 horses where jdm ones are good for 500,
to make forged 2.5 safe they need to change ecu, 2.5k bill
with jdm You do not have to change anything to make it as quick as forged 2.5l
Yes im burble fan but jdm with rcm exhaust is epic to
I spoke with Jura ( look for his tread) and his brother Latso they had jdm wagon with 2.0 than 2.1 than 2.33 and guess what They bought now-jdm hawk with 2.0 twinscroll
Game changes if You wish to go over 500 horses where twinscroll parts design struggle to go beyond

you don't seem to know a lot about the 2.5 really do you ,,, I ran my forged 2.5 over 500bhp for 5 years without any problems , standard ecu mapped by bob rawle and has done loads of events and is very well known for being a good spec car that I drive hard ,,, dont believe everything you read on the internet lol
