BC Coilovers
 

Hi
I had noticed allot of Scoobies have BC coilovers...what is the reason for this?

Is it that they are good, or good value, or just cheap money wise?

Also do these make the car handle any better? As better known coilovers are meant to be good...

I am buying a car with BC coilover..and seller said it's on the softest setting..and his rear tyres run badly...that it has worn the outer edges out..

Is this something easy to take up? As if I were to pay someone what kind of costs would I be looking at.

As Shreksta said Meister R or Tein are a better option

I dont have experience with bc but alot of people running them are not happy and some are happy.Right know im on my stock sti struts and when I will change them I will go for meisterr gt1 and this decision is after a lot of research.Another good option is intrax or ast but these are more expensive.As for Teins I think that is on the same category as Bc's.

The rear tyres don't wear out on the outer edges just because the car has BC coilovers, it's an alignment issue.

I have them on my RA and they’re fantastic, had them on for 18 months and no issues at all. You’ll get good/ bad reviews with any make OP

just saw your other pic of the side of the car and it looks kinda low. Possibly nudge it up a bit on the coilovers?

Really? I did like the look fo the wheels...what is so bad about these wheesl out of intrest?

as much as i consider BC to be ****e, thats def a setup issue. looks like it needs riasing a bit

I am still gettting to confused to why these are rubbish wheels? is this becasue the are 8.75 wide? I am gussing this width is the incorrect size for the car...Is this what makes trhen rubbish?

Those wheels are only 6mm wider than an rb320 (8.5" x 18"). But, the rb320 had an et53.

Coilover front and rear spring rates are nearly always too high, for road use - which causes a reduction in mechanical grip.
For road use, the front spring rates, compared to the rears, are nearly always too high on coilovers - which causes pitch.

But, you can't slam your road car without excessive spring rates.

They are not rubbish mate, the paint is piss-thin on them but actual quality of the wheel is of no concern. They got popular really quick that's why people dont like them. I have them on my hawk sti, been on there for 4 years and 30k miles with no issues other than the paint but previous owner had them re-done before I bought the car.

Your car needs setting up properly, camber bolts and a proper fast road set up. Too many people just bung a set of coilovers on and slam the car without setting it up properly.
Use any of these guys for your fast road set up.

I've run BC coils for years with little issue. They actually make a lot of the budget coils for other people. Their budget range is just that budget. They will make a set customised. Both my sets have been long travel so you can run them at normal ride heights which retains geometry and handling. Slamming a car with McPherson struts is just daft.

Spring rates can be specced and damping also. It's possible to run a set of the basic BR model with long travel, soft springs and divergent damping specced and have a lovely smooth ride. It's just the Standard product is specced for idiots to buy.....

Talking of rates. I ran 5kg/4kg initially. My current ZR set has 8kg/6kg and feels smoother as the damping is very much more refined on these. But they are in no way budget items. You get what you pay for.

What's your current rear ride height?
If you want to retain those wheels?
You could raise the rear ride height to sti stock: 365-370mm (wheel centre to metal arch, not the plastic liner), assuming the BC's go that high?
Or, if it's about the looks? 355mm minimum rear, I wouldn't go lower.
If you still have contact and you've got 21-22mm non-inverted coilovers/struts? You could then attach clips to the strut, to reduce compression travel.
