New Owner - 2014 WRX STI

Hi all,

I have recently picked up this 2014 WRX STI after a brief period owning Audi's. I'm not new to Subaru's having owned 2 x V2 STi RA's, a WRX RA and a Turbo 2000 (featured in Jap Performance Mag) but have been itching to get back behind the wheel of one for ages. I'm aware of the issues with these newer models and the poor reviews they seem to get when stacked up against the Golf R, Focus RS and other newer cars, but I actually love how these still feel just like the older cars. Makes me feel nostalgic when driving it and no other car out there has the same character as a Subaru.

Welcome back. Totally agree, far more driver feedback from the road. Having been featured in performance mags, have you got any modifications planned?

Hi Hedgecutter, I am currently looking at options but I will be modifying it to a certain degree. Styling wise I don't want to do too much as I think these may be a future investment, but I'd like to add in some reliability with a forged engine rebuild and look to improve the handling even further. Maybe push it to around 350-360bhp, but like anything that may evolve over time.

Couldn't agree more with the statements above, these cars have so much character compared to others such as Golf, RS, etc.

I drove a few other cars, just for comparison, before paying for this. I tested an S3, S4, Golf R and A45 AMG. Although some of them felt quicker in the higher gears they all felt dull and uninvolving. They do everything for you, including changing gear, and I just felt like a passenger all the time. The STI is harder to live with day to day, but its more involving and always wants to play.

I think that sums the difference up perfectly. Character and connection vs efficiency and total competence. All have their place and we make our own choices. If they'd done an STI wagon I'm sure I'd had have one by now! Nice colour as well.

Thank you. I like that the masses just don't "get" the WRX STI, means they are still a relatively rare sight on the roads which gives them an exclusivity not many cars have nowadays.
