Anyone bought a Snooper radar detector from Halfords, the S1(£100) SD815iS(£300) or SD715is(£2000 and if so is it worth it?

Snoopers are kinda old technology now and there are much better detectors for the money. I have a Snooper SD815i that I've been using for 3 years and, whilst it was OK to start with at detecting Gatsos, etc., it's a lot less effective now that they've modified the Gatsos to emit at less power. Lucky to get 20m notice with most Gatsos now (occasionally up to 100m, sometimes as little as 5m http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif ). I think BEL 990s get the best write-up for traditional radar/laser detection but the Geodesy that RonaldoH mentioned is the most reliable at notifying you of fixed speed sites (but won't notify you at all of mobile sites!). A combination of both will give you best warning of everything, but there's no substitute for vigilance. Anticipation and observation will stand you better than any electronics http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif .

I bought an 815 snooper from Halfords. As previous posts have mentioned the effectiveness differs depending on where you are. no good in town cos it goes mad at every set of traffic lights but out of town not bad range as already stated can be anywhere between 30 and 100m.
If you do end up buying one from Halfords don't pay £300 for it. I took in a copy of Max Power with an advert for a shop in Dagenham selling them for £229 and they price matched it at my nearest store in Catford.
