STi 2014 on engine pitch mount bracket failure
Hi all,
So I've bought a new shape STI to replace my 08 hatch. Hatch has 122 k on the clock and going great. Picked up the 2014 with a partially stripped engine due to engine failure. I have had the engine replaced but have noticed that the pitch mount bracket on the bulkhead is torn and split. I did some research and found this is a common issue and that mid 2016 the part was upgraded on the production line. Also Subaru America issued a recall and a warranty extension. I've spoke to Subaru UK who say there isn't a problem. Anyone had a similar issue on their 2014 on STI or WRX? Just trying to get a handle on the issue and more data to speak to Subaru UK If this has been covered before please let me know and I'll delete the thread. I did search but didn't come up with anything. If you have a link to the thread it would be appreciated. Thanks |
Pic would be nice for reference purposes so that anyone buying should know where/what to look for in case they land upon this page from a search

This popped up when I was researching buying mine.
I have only seen bracket failures in the US for some reason, maybe because the are way ahead of us with tuning on the latest model. Perrin do a strengthening bracket, looks a ball ache to fit though. Siv |

Upgrading to a hard race pitch mount obviously increases the risk of failure.
Would a more substantial weld around the bracket - bulkhead before it fails be a permanent fix or does the oe bracket need beefing up? Siv |

I wouldn't want to weld that back on. There is a high risk of fire inside the car up behind the dashboard where it's difficult to put out.
I may be wrong but that’s what I’ve seen on the US forums. I wonder if a Perrin bracket is planned for rhd? Siv |

Siv Picture below shows tearing of the backet on the other side and possible lower spot weld failure. https://www.perrin.com/images/produc...roken3x800.jpg Looks as if there are at least two potential crack propogation sites so no beefing up of the bulkhead welds would have prevented the failures - probably would have speeded things up. |
I've obtained a replacement bracket and there are 11 spot welds. However when I looked at the Subaru America bulletin this part has been superseded. The new mount is 2mm thick instead of 1mm. Local dealer said there is no superseded part. So I supplied the part number and one is coming from Sweden apparently it's for the levorg STI. We will see. Still think Subaru UK are trying to duck this in a not sold many, head in the sand kind of way. Please check yours.

Interesting.
Definitely a market for a RHD support bracket then. Maybe we should contact Perrin and see if they can produce a kit? Siv |
Part number for "BRACKET COMPLETE-PITCHING STOPPER" changed in May 2016 (mid way through MY16 European and ROW production) FROM 51234YC000P TO 51234VA0809P and is used on both saloon and wagon (Levorg)
