Are plain and boring. In-fact cockpits from the old cavalier and the subaru are about as dissimilar as two dissimilar things in a pod.

Discuss.

Forgive me if this thread has been "done to death".

I actually think they are not too bad. Neat and tidy and by no means insulting. The VTS interior isn't the nicest by any stretch of the imagination. The Impreza seats give life to the interior.

HKSubaru 17 June 2002 06:23 PM

saxo, you sold the saxo yet? have you got a scoob now?

jayz 17 June 2002 07:22 PM

Get in a VW Then,Send you off to sleep there that plain,Jayz.:)

LG John 17 June 2002 07:27 PM

Not yet, goes in autotrader on Friday but a guy (friend of Sipie - nice one mate) is viewing/driving it tomorrow and he seems really interested. I'm well excited at the propect of possible scooby ownership within the next month :D

Sphyncter 17 June 2002 07:29 PM

Saxo-Boy, forget the scooby, buy a motor-bike instead. You know you want too, and you know it makes sense.

I hear a lot of this 'plain, dull, tacky, plasticy' rubbish about the scoob's interior.

So what?

I rather like the gorgeous leather MOMO sterring wheel, the white dials, the decent HUD, the basic, but functional dash. It's not walnut, but then I also have a few grand left over to spend on other things instead of buying a car that is ostentatious and walnutty. I LIKE the scoob's interior. It's basic and functional and looks alright.

It's what it looks like outside and what it does that really matter.

Maz.

Sphyncter 17 June 2002 08:49 PM

I take it you are not in complete agreement with the afore-mentioned observations then Maz.

normarker 17 June 2002 09:19 PM

HUD? Wassat then?

chrisp 17 June 2002 09:46 PM

I hear this all the time about boring dashboards and interiors. Name me a car with a superb one as a benchmark. I have been in a lots of cars and very few really stand out as been interesting. This includes BMWs, Mercs, Toyotas, Fords, vauxhalls, pugs, evos, nissans etc. Exceptions are the TVR which are awesome for a sports car, skyline with that g meter :D, the Ford Ka as the strangest :D but not really for me. I actually think mine is pretty interesting with the blue console, blue dash and white dials, blue comfy seats and soon to have the custom WRX mats :D.

I love the "Bright" button........... when you tell people what it does they're amazed!! :D What will those clever Japanese think of next!!

logiclee 17 June 2002 10:07 PM

One of the reasons I bought the Alfa 156 was the Italian retro style twin pod interior.
Would have been nice if the three centre pod gauges had some sporty oil temp and pressure gauges rather than clock, petrol and water temp gauge.

Quality seem pretty good with no squeeks or rattles.

I dont think the later classic Scoob and bug eye interiors are that bad but the pre MY96 cars were a bit grim, not even a leather steering wheel.

Some people have higher priorities when buying a car - me included. My mate has a BMW 330Ci Sport and OK the quality is a better grade of plastic - but at the end of the day once youve sat in it every day for 3 months, does it make that big a difference?

Maybe people who do higher mileage appreciate a better interior but to me the Impreza has excellent seats and thats all I need.

Simon.

I decided to sacrifice some viewing range to be able to drive my impreza instrumentally..

Is that the new Defi Gauge set!

Caronte 17 June 2002 10:40 PM

You can't imagine the hassle of wiring...

akshay67 18 June 2002 12:10 PM

The scoobs interior is fine. What I tend to find is that it is scooby owners that critisise the scooby!!

I have a MY99 with a matching Momo gear knob. I also bought some brushed aluminium strips that go on the centre console and air vents for £60 - personally I think these look cheap, but read on. I've stuck two electric blue lights on the centre console too. At night when I switch these lights on it lights the brushed aluminium strips which totally transform. Everyone who has sat in the car at night has complemented it (women just die....). I've also got the aluminium foot pedals. To date, no one has said the interior looks dull/boring - usually the opposite!

Now all I need is a momo handbrake...

Roger The Cat 18 June 2002 12:14 PM

the bright button rocks...

Whatever you guys have cant be any worse than the U.S spec MY01 RS interior. Faux Carbon Fibre Very nasty indeed.

HELLOM8 19 June 2002 09:38 AM

Car critics and the like are always saying how plan and horrible the Scooby’s interior is.
The dash wraps round and blends into the doors to give that true cockpit feel. A cockpit should do exactly this, it is an area in which the driver should feel in control.
A cockpit stops being practical and useful and basically stops being a cockpit when designers try to copy eras of past or go for the boat theme.

This is an example of a designer interior, not classic in its design and so only appeals to certain people (hair dressers, etc) and in a few years time it will be totally out of date, the Ford Focus is a classic example of super fast ageing design.
This is no longer performing the function it is supposed to do the Scooby cockpit rules.

I think the basic style is Ok.. What niggles me a bit is that most people want to / feel the need to add dials some of which I believe should be part of the basic setup... ie boost gauge, Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature... I think that's where the cost cutting came into play...

Osama Mc Donalds 19 June 2002 11:23 AM

Why compare an Impreza on any other ;)

The simple answer is that the road going Impreza is based on a Rally Car what would the rally drivers want with a mad interior layout? :D

Coogie 19 June 2002 11:28 AM

....If you want a car that goes like a rocket, and handles like it's on rails....buy an Impreza :D

....If you want a car with a "pretty" interior....buy something else ;)

Nick.
