Ej205 Forester Build

Hi Guys,

Knew to all this, first Subaru I've owned and wanting to do some basic mods and hit the 280-300hp region.

Subaru Forester XT 2.0, bits I've got already are:
- Td04L
- Sti TMIC
- 3 port boost solenoid
- Walbro 255 fuel pump
- Decat up pipe
- 3" turbo back
- Panel filter

Read a thread from 2014 and the guy was running a td04 hybrid and it hit 294hp on the dyno but he had ported headers. You think I could achieve similar power going hybrid but without porting the headers?
I'll be honest I don't want to have the block out and dismantled!

Thoughts guys? Much appreciated, Danny

Why would you need to dismantle the block to port the headers??

Well I'm guessing it doesn't need dismantling then haha, how much of a job is it?

"Headers" is just another name for exhaust manifold.

Righto, do you think this is something worth having done?

Read through this thread from subaruforester.org/europe forum for ideas of what others have done before.............

I don't think ported headers will net a big increase in hp necessarily (at least at the td04 level), however spool seems to be greatly improved with ported headers and a "Harvey up-pipe".

The td04-13t compressor wheel on the normal impreza turbo isn't big enough to push enough air for much more than 280hp, no matter what the other ancillaries are. It's definitely the limiting factor in OP's list of mods.

With a hybrid turbo, you'd get a bigger comp wheel, which should make it possible to push to 300 and slightly beyond. However at much more than 300 the td04L turbine becomes a big limiting factor.

I'm in a similar position to OP, in that I'm trying to reach a maximum amount of power from my TD04 based turbo, however I will be running a TD04HL-15t , which has both a bigger turbine and a bigger compressor. I think I might JUST pip 300hp, but the map will just be the base to see how much difference a upgrade to 18t will make. My weirdo turbo was OEM fitment on the newage JDM WRX, so not many of these particulars around.

Folly62, do let us know how much power the car makes in the end :)

One of the limiting factors is the softer cams in the forester engines.

Gosh, yeah looks like a big limitation :-/

Can they be swapped for WRX items?

Of course they can.

Many have also found that using a bigger turbo can increase the power beyond 300 but all of it arrives at the very top end of the rev range.
