vf43 turbo uk2000?
 
hi so im currently looking to upgrade my turbo (td04) and injectors along with fmic before remapping just wondering if a vf43 will fit my 98 uk2000 also while im here are 440cc injectors big enough,car dyno at 250 bhp as it is now.

Vf43 will be laggy on your 2.0 as its suited to the 2.5 engine. Look for vf24/28/30/35 instead as they are suited to the 2.0 engine and all will give 320+ bhp

Don't forget vf34 and Hybrid turbos. vf34/35 should max out your injectors but don't forget the 5 speed can't handle that level of torque.

I'm on my second 5 speed and thats on its way out.

Had one on a 2.0 blob sti and it was awful, just a big lump of power later on in the rev range didn't make for an enjoyable car

May have been sods law . Never had and issue in the 300,s with a 5 speed. Probably depends on driving style also I assume .

Lol, I give mine more than enough sympathy. But I'm also not the only one, its the torque that does it.

Also depends on what 5 speed ? I was at 477/470 no issues . P1 box vbaaa.

Thanks for that, again something i never considerd, i just jumped in and bought things when my engine was being rebuilt,so thinking along the lines of max torque the box can handle what is the largest tubro i can put in my car with the 440 injectors and fmic

The more i read up on turbos the more im swaying to just get either a td04
19t or a td05 20g i for what i want i dnt think i need anything bigger what im now wondering is are these both big enough for 440 injectors

Your injectors will be maxed out long before your turbo on a VF35/VF34 so assume similar with the large turbos you mentioned. Think about driveability and how you want the car to perform. Some people want the really quick spooling while others want a laggy turbo.

What you don't want is to whack on a turbo and feel like its slow because its in a rev range you will never use.

However speaking of gearboxes like I said I'm on my second (one of the stronger classic boxes) I only ever used half throttle and never went past 3800rpm. The gearbox still got damaged.

Your not really making sense in what your saying? You say a td04 or a 20g but both will give a totally different drive, the td04 will give a fast spooling car and wont damage your box but wont reach 300bhp or if it does it will be maxed out. The 20g will be laggy on a 2.0 but will give around 330bhp-370bhp and will more than likely finish off your gearbox if driven hard.

Work out what type of road car you want and pick the smallest turbo that will achieve your goals.

Thanks thats what was looking for to find out the biggest turbo i can get without doing damage to the gearbox now i know the vf range and the td05 20g is too much

Before looking at turbos. Has your car got an aftermarket ECU? If not, forget doing any mods as the 98 ECU is not remappable as far as I know.

Any particular reason you're looking to go FMIC? Unless its for looks, or for track then there's plenty TMIC's will more than handle the power you're after.

Thanks a good point mate, just assumed it was a 99/00. If I remember correctly the classic intercooler is very restrictive and is not like the newage topmounts. Now I could be getting mixed up with the earlier classics, they were more restrictive.

Yeah i got an after market ecu around the same time i bought the fmic and before i really knew anything or found this forum ,i originally wanted to get up to 350 bhp and was told by someone whay to get who i now know knows nothing about modding imprezas i now know 350 i dnt want il be happy with 300

Mate you could get 350bhp. Get yourself a vf35/vf34 with some larger injectors and that mixed with a classic you will be very surprised. Then you will start looking at suspension and brakes lol

Oh aye could easilly get 350 but i dnt fancy having to upgrade everything else i the process, shocks springs clutch flywheel brakes poly bushes already done massive garage bill lol rebuilt engine only regret is not getting it forged il wait till i get the import for the big numbers lol

Yeah i bought the engine 3 weeks after i got the car bak then i knew absolutely nothing lol i was jst looking for a new engine lol

Not set on a particularl import jst yet im going to really research it before i dive in

I've got a slightly different engine spec (forged 2.1) with uprated gearbox etc, but I was in a similar position to OP in terms of turbo choice.

Over the years I've ran standard td04L-13t (newage UK wrx), Andy Forrest non billet td05-20g, sc36, billet td06-20g.

My new setup is being rotated with v-band couplings everywhere, and quick disconnect fluid connections, which will let me change turbos in 30 minutes (incl other map uploaded).

Anyway, as part of this I have done some research into the TD04 series, and I will be going for a TD04HL with 18t or 19t wheel for twisty track, with a view to swap to a td05-16g (billet, probably) or 20g for street and faster tracks.

There is not much capability difference between a TD04HL turbine and a td05H, and with an appropriate size compressor wheel the td04 will outperform some td05 combination.

Unfortunately the normal turbine wheel in the Subaru turbos is a td04L, which appears to choke power to around 300 max, no matter what the comp wheel is.

The td04HL should fit in a td04L housing, though, if the housing is opened up using a lathe (or the td04HL housings are available on eBay if that's easier).

I already have a td04HL with a 15t wheel, which I will use for initial testing to get a baseline before going to a 18t wheel. The 18t wheel is nice, because a 19t needs the bearing housing modified on a lathe (the wheel doesn't fit into the recess).

Some of the Volvo R cars run td04HL-18 and 19t, and they achieve around 330-340 regularly with great spool, so no reason we can't get to similar numbers with a similar setup on our cars.

My opinion - save your money for the import. If you change out the TD04 you'll need to remap at minimum and for what 300hp instead of 250hp? I'd live with the 250hp for now.

I had a remapped UK2000 as my second impreza (277hp and 312lb/ft), absolutley blistering low down to mid range, The more power you chase, the further you will find yourself looking for it up the rev range. Unless you can get your TD04 modded into a hybrid of course.

Yeah the plan was to get it mapped anyway like u say though ther not much diference 250 to 300 lol the import will be a while away anyway i spent a fortune on the wrong upgrades on this already but its done now, once the fmic is on and injectors swapped out and new turbo in il be done modding this one
