Should I stay or should I go - Caravanning?

My sister-in-law, who never holidays outside the UK, has just purchased a caravan and she’s managed to talk Mrs SWS into us going off on a caravan holiday with her.

Now call me unadventurous, spoilt and claustrophobic but I can’t think of anything much closer to hell than three people and two dogs spending a week in a 15sq metres box.

Plenty of people seem to enjoy this form of holiday but I just don't get it.

Can anyone explain to me the appeal of this caravanning thing?

is the scooby pulling the caravan ? if so, try not to do much reversing, if any, it boils any clutch.
You meet a lot of like minded people and make friends, that could be a challenge in your case, lol.
A large stash of wine helps the evenings away if conversation is limited.
It's a pitta if it rains all the time, some would head home but caravanners tend to stick it out. Might be advisable to avoid Wales:)
The attraction is the complete freedom it gives in some of the best locations and is the exact opposite of a busy lifestyle.
Let us know if you get hooked on it.

Lol.

No. Towing a caravan with a Sube would be a capital offence and in any case I had the towbar rail deleted when I had my underbody refurb done last year, fortunately.

Well I thought I would hate it but I did really like it - me and the late Mrs used to go in our two berth (but big) tourer and the R Sport towed it with zero problems - apart from 15 mpg from a non-turbo.

The setup and take down was a slight pain which usually envolved some stress.

We did see some great places and met some nice people.

So if you like the outdoors in any way then I say go for it.

Andrew.

Still going, but moved into first building! Caravan went a year today; we often have 70mph + winds, so don't miss it at all, but perversely glad that I lived in it.

We had both the caravan and portaloo, but the portaloo scarred me for life after one 4.30am session of diarrhoea and vomiting, in a force8 gale.
Happy days!

Well the early feedback seems to bear out what experienced S'netters are saying: it's seems this caravanning lark is all about setup, support and sh1te.

The sister-in-law has been on a trial run with the new caravan this last weekend..

I quote her feedback verbatim:
It’s been interesting. A couple of experienced caravaners have been brilliant. They fixed the water flow where it had been shut down, fixed the gas pipe fitting and tuned in the tv. Late to bed as took some setting up. Shower and loo working. Been invited to join the group out this evening...

Will we have to use the Portaloo if we come? 😳

depends on the site, just make sure you go to a site that has a toilet/shower block in easy reach. We just use the portaloo overnight and the campsite facilities daytime.
A very basic site that's not much more than a farmers field would present too many challenges for inexperienced caravanners, cheap but not recommended.

sorry, I thought it was a general question
