GC8 ENGINE ADVICE

Hi guys, i am new on here need to pick some brains as not sure which route to go down on getting my car back on the road. Firstly its 1995 GF8 Wrx which the previous owner claimed it had a STI engine in it due to the cross marking under the alternator, but i have my doubts if it is.

The head gasket is gone on it and rathed just doing the head gasket i thought i would get it rebuilt, but is it worth rebuilding a 1995 wrx engine or shall i replace it with a newage sti ej205?Just need some advice on optoins that i have other than a rebuild which are in the same price bracket as a rebuild.

Look forward to hearing your responses.

Imran

Assuming you're looking to drop in a used EJ205, i'd go down the rebuild route. Atleast with a rebuild you know what you have. Used engines can be a lottery.

New Ej207 short block just over £2k
Refresh yours to standard spec is similar cost.
(If garage does it)
I'd choose the new engine

If it has cross hatching where the crank sensor is it could well be a CDB so might be worth a forged rebuild.

Depends what power op is looking for?

Obviously but I wouldn't be throwing it out. If it was me I'd be salvaging or selling.

Only complete engines up to 98MY are a direct fit, engines after that have totally different inlet manifold port shape & spacing so wont work

Afternoon guys sorry i've been at work, but appreciate that you guys took the time to reply :)

Ive attatched a pic of the crosshatch marking under the alternator which ive been told indicates its a closed deck, but is this a definite?if it is then from your advice i will have it rebuilt as for power i aint looking for massive amounts somewhere between 300-350.
