Seizing Pistons - Fixable With A Cleanup?
Hi all, having issues with my car as per a previous post. (I’ve opened a new thread as its now specially about my brakes but please move it if I’ve done this wrong). It’s a GB270 with the 4 Pots. Recently had rear wheel bearing done, new rear Whiteline control arms. My problem has been pulling in different directions depending on if I am accelerating or decelerating. Nothing has changed in terms of symptoms since doing any of these. Car is going in for full alignment shortly but felt it was worthwhile looking at my calipers in more detail. I noticed that each piston looked particularly worn and were moving but not at the same time and seemed slow to move when pumping the brake. Do these look salvageable? Look a right mess but all seals are fine and it’s heavy corrosion. I could take them out and clean them up or should I replace? https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...46e648836.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...698867e18.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...3aeee63d5.jpeg |
The fit and forget solution would be a rebuild with stainless pistons.

You’re right... probably kidding myself to think that they would last if I was to DIY! I’ll see what Ian at Godspeed can do for me. Cheers mate |

Do Biggredd use stainless pistons? I was trying to see more info but kept crashing on their website. There’s calipers from Biggred on eBay but doesn’t mention stainless ones. If anyone knows that would be great. Thanks everyone |
just seen these might be the cheapest and less hassle option

Im not sure a good refurb by the time you pay postage there and back etc will be a few hundred quid. Might be a worthwhile investment to pay £500 for set of front STI brembos and sell the olds I believe they can go for around the £200 mark obviously less if they are needing a refurb

The lettering on outside of those ebay ones appear to be bare metal and if so will very quickly turn to rust and look ****e.
Also the pistons in there dont look new . You can see in the one pic of that the the one on the left has all sorts of marks on the outside edge. Might not be stainless steel too. |
