Revolution motorsport hawkeye - overheating issues

Having taken the revolution motorsport hawkeye home on friday last week, all was good and the car was running perfectly through saturday too. on sunday I took a short 2 mile drive from work to the shop and by the time I got there the car had overheated and cut out. I let it cool down and drove it back, but again 2 minutes later the temp had gone up to 120°c. At this point I noticed coolant dripping from the bottom of the standard sti radiator.

Last night I took delivery of a new mishimoto radiator, removed the thermostat and tested it in boiling water, fitted the new rad, refitted the fully functioning thermostat and filled with coolant. With the car then running at idle up to temp the thermostat opened up to flow into the rad at exactly 78°c as per its rating and eventually the fan kicked in and also works fine.

I then took it for a quick drive and after 5 minutes the temp shot up from a steady 95 all the way to 120 again before i promptly shut the engine off.

Other than it just being an airlock in the system which took a long time to show itself during the drive I am now out of ideas, so any input would be greatly appreciated!

Yes either airlock a# you hope or you’ve cooked the head gasket imo which is pressurising the system

Return it unfit for purpose. Get your money back.

I got it indirectly from Revolution, they sold it to a company called dreamcar giveaways who sold £25 tickets to enter to win it, and I won - so I paid a grand total of £25 for it! So even if I have to have the head gasket done I am still coming out on top, but its the last thing you want to do to a car you won in a raffle that came straight from the company that built it. I think the best I can expect is my ticket price back.

According to all the paperwork, the engine has only done 8k miles and was rebuilt 1000 miles ago, so I will be amazed and appalled if it is the head gasket!

Seen that somewhere right enough. Don't know what you can do now apart from bite the bullet or ring a brief. Was the rad leaking if so I would say the head gasket contributed to that. Good luck.

That would raise alarm bells with me in that, someone took the good engine out of it!

but for £25 and the spec the car had - worth just biting bullet and getting it checked over properly

I’d get to Paul finch for one of his pinned forged items wot( all the bells and whistles if it was me no messing and then have the map checked over worth every penny at £25!!!
