6 speed conversion

Hi Folks, I have a Type R V4 with a 2.1 stroker (about 350hp) and the original 5 speed DCCD. I want to convert the car to a JDM 6 speed DCCD box with plans for future power gains.
I've had some good advice from members on typera.com and from a couple of tuners, but each answer throws up another question. First things, first, where can i get a good JDM gearbox from? They seem a bit thin on the ground.
The Type R has an R180 rear diff, and iirc 4.44 gearing.
I think i need the following:
6 speed gearbox with & Propshaft
6 speed Gear selector and linkage
6 speed Starter motor
6 speed clutch and flywheel
Front driveshafts with male connectors
Cradle

Do I need anything else, and are there compatibility issues fitting a later box to an MY97/98 GC8??

Many thanks

I’m sure you car is a great car but sometimes with mods on this level is it worth getting one that comes like that already , preferably factory rather than some one else doing it , i know people do the gearbox swap but it sounds like a lot of work hassle and cost , only a thought what about a good jdm import newer car ?

You can use your original front driveshafts with these https://importcarparts.co.uk/parts-info?id=9593&cat=96&sub=183&sec=349&var=32&dc=0&ge n=&searchKey=&searchPart= I'm not sure if it's fits all 2004 on 6 speeds but on my 2005 Spec C gearbox it did at least. The newer driveshafts are probably stronger though so it's your choice.

The rear diff with the correct gearing for the 6 speed is needed.

The gearbox mount should be for the 6 speed also.

you'll need the 3.9 R180 rear diff too, and a prayer mat that it never goes wrong as theyre notoriously difficult to find, and ultimately expensive when you do.

I've got a 6 speed jdm dccd box in my type r,you can still use the 5 speed clutch/flywheel and starter if its up to handling your target power.
just get the stub converters from icp so you don't need to change front driveshafts, about £125 When I bought them.
keep an eye out for Matty b's breakers he normally gets them in now and again and will sell you the box, diff, prop and linkage.
If you need to upgrade your clutch and flywheel then buy new 6 speed set,If not just stick yours in then you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the replies lads, some good info there. I'm looking around now. I deffo need to 3.9 rear diff and my Type R has a 4.444.
Also, the link to the front axle adaptors may come in handy. I'll keep you posted of any progress
