Buying a car on EBay.

Hello just wanting to get a abit of feedback from you guys, just abit of background I've been looking on eBay for a Subaru for my brother he recently drove mine and decided he wanted one. I had found a Hawkeye for him, advert says it has a forged engine rebuild and is running 350 bhp on a 2007 2.5 wrx engine

I've asked the seller lots of questions like does the car come with FSH and the reply I got was 'almost' what does that even mean? Is it an age thing if I was selling my car and I know we Subaru guys need lots and lots of details about things, I would need to know exact dates when services were carried out.
Also the advert says its had a rebuild but seller doesn't know how much rebuild cost, but this is the clincher I asked for a pic of the inside and noticed that on the clocks it said 132,000 miles but on the advert it said 92,000 I questioned the seller and he said I put sti clocks in to sell the car and the originals are in the boot, I mean who would make there car appear to have higher mileage.

Anyway my point is my brother really wants the car and I'm telling him to stay well away, the persons to vague with information regarding the car. What do you guys think?

Who built the engine any receipts for the build or pictures

No receipts and no warrenty he said the time expired to cover the warrenty period. So I guess its just his word.

a stamped service book doesnt interest me at all when buying a car, i like to see piles of paperwork from a subaru specialist detailing exactly whats been done to the car. when somebody tells you its had a rebuild you should be told everything that was replaced/when/why/by who and the cost. head gaskets doesnt mean its had a full rebuild so be wary.

ultimately if in doubt...........walk away.

oh and its a wrx, tell your brother to save for an sti.................he wont regret it.

whats the budget by the way?

have you got a link to this car?

Some people are awful at selling cars. Went to look at a Focus ST guy was even there when I turned up. Eml light on dash, power steering fluid low. I walked away.

If you have any doubts then walk away. It’s hard as I’ve done it myself.
pictures made a car look amazing and a friend of mine wasn’t sure. I got a train to Scotland and handed over £4K that went I got it home it turned out all of this work had been done many years before... before the car had been stripped and rebuilt very poorly.
£1k for an mot and I sold it at a huge loss.

a good one will come up.
