Secondary air pump relay stuck - US recall why not UK

Hi all

The engine light on my 2.0 Forester 2008 came on at the weekend. It subsequently turned out that the secondary air pump is permanently on, even when the ignition is off, because the relay is locked, which is clearly bad news as it will burn out the motor/kill the battery/start a fire.
After a bit of research it turn out that Subaru did a recall in the US for this:
https://subaru.oemdtc.com/495/wtm-73...07-2014-subaru
I dropped a note to Subaru UK on this. They are simply not interested, which seems odd as the components and years align, and any fault that essentially will either toast a £500 pump or set fire to your beloved car seems something that might be of concern to the manufacturer.
I'd like to know if any other users of this forum have experienced similar failures and maybe if we can show Subaru it is affecting enough cars they might take it more seriously.
If you have experienced this issue please drop me a note with the year, model and description of the issue.
I'll keep you informed as things progress or not.

Regards

Clydesdaly

It was/is a recall? On hatches anyway. Got mine done in November while doing 2 others (airbag and brake lines)
Mine actually had the pump removed during a rebuild but dealership checked it regardless

I had to pay Subaru to look at my system when it went wrong on my hawk then had to pay someone else to totally remove it, block it off and map it out.

Wish they had have done a UK recall too. Stupid troublesome system.

I bought the bits and Richard @ FB Tuning fitted them. He removed the crossover pipes from the solenoid valves and fitted the blanking plates to the rear of the heads. I then un-plugged the valves and the main secondary air pump and had a mapper turn off all the associated ECU codes that bring up the check engine light.

Simples.

Although you may not want t drive from Germany all the way to Richard @ FB Tuning to get this done.
