Prosport Water Temp Gauge

Simple question, whats the best way to get the Temp sensor installed. Radiator hoses will be replaced with Samco at same time. Instruction are indicating inline on the top radiator hose but would prefer not to have to cut the samco hose.

Pretty sure Samco make a hose that is pre-tapped for a sensor to be fitted.

why not put it where the one in the car is at present? That's the place SUBARU designed it to go?

Only your present gauge won't work if you do.

Two things: if you want to put it in the top hose, buy a decent adaptor with the tappings in place and ensure that there is a decent earth via the adaptor, which may need connecting to earth itself. many have a screw beside the tappings for just that.

Oh, and do yourself a favour: find and read my thread about how to refill your coolant without airlocking it...or your next few posts just might be about that, or the damage done by it;)

I wanted to keep original sensor if possible.

Would using a 1/8 npt t Piece like this then allow both sensor to remain attached.

Might do...if there is physically enough space for both senders.

Plus one, or both, using that won't have the actual probe in the hot water. better to either put it in the place the OE one goes and either do without that one, or fit that into the top hose. since it's only one wire to that one, an easy mod.

could the sender wires be spliced so that both pick up a reading from one sender?

No, the senders are scaled to read on a particular gauge. the OE sender is not very snsitive either, hence why folk go aftermarket.

When I put my Defi WT gauge in, I originally left the OE sender out, but couldn't get used to the dash gauge being on zero all the time, so re-inserted it in the top hose...which promptly caused the top hose to pinhole and eventually fail. (It was old and manipulating it caused the inside to crack, it looked like someone had taken a razor blade to it).

Unless you have an early classic do not remove the oem sensor as it also incorporates the temp sensor for the ecu.

Would there be any safe way to get a temp sensor port fitted to the samco top radiator hose, without having to gut an put an inline adaptor for the sensor. after already having top hose go at the clip im wanting to avoid having more "joints"

A proper inline connector with good quality hose clips should be fine.

My classic was/is 1998, and has two temp senders as OE, not one.

As above, buy a decent adaptor, decent stainless jubilee clips, (not wire ones) and you'll be fine.
