speedo bulbs very dim

The light output from the speedo cluster at night is very very dim. The heater matrix dials and stereo and clock are acceptable and much brighter but the speedo cluster is really dim. Will changing the bulbs help and anyone know what size bulbs I need for this?

Changed all the bulbs on mine recently as about 5 had gone in quick succession. Made a massive difference, did all of them while I had it out just to be sure. Have the right ones to use somewhere I'll edit this message when I get a chance to find them.

great, for what it costs may have all them replaced then

W5W is the code, also called 501 iirc.

They blacken on the tops inside after some years, cutting the light drastically.

Replacement is dead easy on any car after 1998, a bit more difficult before that.

It can be done in under half an hour, and yes, replace the lot, around 5-6 in there.
