For Those Who Don't Change Their Cabin Filters

I give you exhibit A:

That's just over a year old and should be bright white with none of the bits.

Them things get proper grubby and restrict air flow through the heater vents

jaygsi 11 December 2018 09:50 PM

Not got one the classic.

Gambit 11 December 2018 11:09 PM

That's nothing compared to what came out of my car when purchased lol

About as bad as the one I took out last year when I bought the car. Although that's nothing compared to the one from my parents Astra I did a few months back. Turns out they had never done it in the 7 or 8 years and 70000 miles since they've owned it! It amazes me the effort some people go to maintaining/modifying their cars but then they never think to change out their cabin filter occasionally.

scooobydont 12 December 2018 07:45 AM

After seeing this, just ordered one up. Will post before and after if it's suitably disgusting, not had the car long so no idea if it has been done.

Ste333 12 December 2018 07:49 AM

I had mine changed the other day. It looked a bit like the pic above - mostly black and full of debris. I think people tend to forget them!

Jon T 12 December 2018 08:26 AM

I have had my car for just over a year now and have no idea when it was last changed. I ordered one last night from icp but there ebay page. It was about £13 delivered off there main site but only £9 delivered off the ebay page.

alcazar 12 December 2018 09:14 AM

It's behind the glove box. It's a long time since I did it on my old wagon, but as I remember just undo a couple of screws so the glove box opens further, then you'll see a white box behind. I don't think you need to take the glove box door off to get at it.
Open the door of the white box being careful not to snap off any lugs and pull out the old filter, plus loads of leaves and dead bugs. Then pop in a new filter and job done.

Is there any kind of air freshener that you can spray these with before fitting. My local valeting company does a sherbet lemon spray that you spray on your mats after cleaning it lasts for ages.

jaygsi 12 December 2018 04:57 PM

Although not as good if you suffer from allergies. Although can't see a dirty one helping you either.

A dirty one should still stop the pollen etc. getting in, it just won't let fresh air in either.
