Any point upgrading OEM 4 pots to Brembo 4 pots?
Looking at getting some STI calipers off newer Impreza for GC8 like ones below.
Is it worth it or can i expect similar performance? Any info will be great. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302971576...m=302971576967 |
I’d say yes the brembo will definitely be a good upgrade but I wouldn’t pay them prices :freak3: sure you can find them atleast 2/3rds chePer or if not by half it’ll be an easier changeover if you bought a set of sti gold brembo off mattyb the breaker off here he can also supply you with all the bits needed for the conversion if needed |
^ what he said, that's extortionate on that ebay ad.
The performance difference will be fairly obvious straight away. The brembos have much more bite. But it depends what you use your car for - ie, daily? track? You might find that the brakes you have already would be considerably better with decent pads/discs/fluid and braided lines..... |
Totally agree with the above. There's lots of good disc/pad/pluid combos out there for the subaru/sumitomo 4 pots. A brake stopper may also be of benefit.

a brakestopper is definetley a worthwhile mod as I’ve got one and little bro’s wrx has the cusco strutbrace with it built in allready my brakes changed night and day and on little brothers wrx much better feel less flex and strut brace will tighten the front end up a bit aswell herss one for a classic gc8 https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F152703109301 |
Yea wouldn't pay that much can get a set for around £300. So will they bolt straight on off a hatch? Or need fitting kit?

You would need fitting kit if going for the hatchback black type calipers for defo I think this is why the gold brembo calipers are pretty popular for the classsics as an upgrade |
Ah ok so good so the front brembo's just bolt straight on? I know the STI ones are made by brembo. Not keen on the gold though that would have to go.

you will get all the bits you need and all refurb3d if not new this is what I would do :thumb: |
Think the fronts are a straight bolt on. Obviously you'll need the appropriate bolts etc for calipers. And appropriate wheel clearance for the larger calipers. There's a bit more in here when I just searched:

Cheers not sure if that clears things up or not.
Matty is selling some stop tech ones. |
what doesn't it clear up mate? It basically says everything bolts straight on (calipers, discs, pads etc), use your original brake hoses as newage brembo hoses don't attach to your struts properly, And make sure the calipers fit under your wheels you have....I think that's about it.... (for the front brakes anyway)
Other than perhaps consider a newage BMC as well. But not essential. |
Bolt on for my 2004 Legacy
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.sco...5f587ff0d6.jpg Nice upgrade - mostly cosmetic though to be honest :Suspiciou - the spec.B Legacys have Ø316mm discs already so not a huge difference with Ø326mm :D Never ran out of brakes before ... and unsurprisingly I still haven't... You will need wheels that will clear them though - there is quite a difference, I have got spacers and long studs now so that I can fit my old 17" Legacy Blitzen wheels with snow tyres on for winter  |
Yes they are worthwhile fitting especially if you're running a lot more power or enjoy driving quickly most of the time.
That price is hilarious I bought a used set of impartsb46 (International Motors) for about £360 (no discs/pads but even with buying them from Godspeed was way cheaper than that) Front black Brembos fit exactly the same as the gold Brembos (direct bolt on) Rears do not fit as they are a larger caliper (someone may have got them to fit but I've not seen anything saying they fit) |
Ah ok cheers for info. I will check my wheels as can't remember the make at moment. Did see some nice Lotus brakes for £300 new bargain. But will stick with what I know fits.
As said Matty has a set of stop tech ones that look clean, but need adaptors, although they are supplied. Just need abit more braking power. Got 2 pots ready to go on rear aswell. Current 4 pots are abit lacking in feel. Plus quite abit of travel before brakes kick inn. |
