Battery draining, continuity question
My mate has got a classic and his battery drains fully over night, recently had issues with not starting and turned out to be a broken wire. Now i was thinking that the drain on the battery could be similar. I disconnected the battery and in my basic logical thinking thatif i got continuity between a live wire and the body then that would surely be it.
But it all seems to obvious as if i check the main live from the battery and the main earth lead with them not connected i get a circuit. Is it that obvious or am i missing something?? Thanks for any help |
This there a light on somewhere - either inside the car or on the boot ? Or even if the parking lights are on ?
Many moons ago I used to have a mk 2 Nissan micra 1.2 GS and being younger and more stupid than I am now I used to forget to turn off the boot light after use. Just a thought. Andrew. |
Thanks for the reply, as far as im aware everything is swithed off. But i'll go through it all agina when i pop up his next time.

If you have a multimter, set it to DC current. remove battery +ve and place multimeter in series, respecting polarity.
DO NOT SWITCH ANYTHING ON, OR START ENGINE. Report on multimeter reading please, with EVERYTHING switched off. |

Set the multimeter to dc amps not volts and see if there is a current draw, connected as described above.
As stated do not start anything! Chris. |
Errrr, you do know the difference between Amps and Volts?
if not, get it to a DECENT auto electrician...www.yell.com will help you find one. |

So almost certainly a duff battery. Probably dropped a cell and can't hold charge.
A DECENT auto electrics place, (ie: NOT Halfords or Kwik Fit) will check battery. |
