Car temp sensor dropping to 0 under boost
Hi Guys
I have a gc8 sti v3. The temp sensor gauge in car seems to drop near zero at times under boost/at speed. When I let off boost the temp seems to head to the middle again. The temp gauge drops at a controlled speed - it does not do it erratically like an electrical issue would. I do have a new thermostat which opens a little earlier, but the car was doing this even before that was replaced. Could it be a temp sensor issue? Just trying to logically understand why it happens, if it is common and how I fix it |
Not be better getting a mechanic to look at it as you have changes the stat and its just the same if your in the halfway go see john in flemington industrial estate |
cheers mate, what is the name of his business?
You in the Cambuslang area aye? |
I work in halfway and have used john on all my 6 imprezas J D Auto Repairs Unit 1 Flemington Industrial Estate Hamilton Road G72 7TN Cambuslang |
I take it the car is running ok , no hg issues , i’m thinking possible old battery is every thing else electrical suffering ? poor earth ? poor alternator ? try a voltage tester , 12v or so when off , cranking around 9.6 plus under load, and 14 or so when charging |
Thanks for garage info - always good to know I have a garage near by which is trusted and has worked on Subaru’s! Car runs great - can I ask why you suggested possible head gasket? Doesn’t not do it while revving at idle only revs at speed |
I remember when my hg went coolant temp was all over the shop , i assume when air was where coolant should have been so it had no coolant to test the temp of so gauge showed cold , i’m sure if car is running fine then it’s ok , i’m still thinking battery charging related issue |
Cheers mate! Funny enough I am thinking of putting in a very light weight battery. Car is a weeeknd car on a trickle charger. Anyone got any battery suggestions? |
Any updates on your fault ? i would just do a standard battery even more so if it’s trickle charged , i have two cars garaged on trickle charge and have just left batteries as they are , the trickle charger is on for 2 to 3 hours a day as it’s on a timer |
