Dodgy fuel gauge...??

Hi all,

2007 Hawk STi. Filled up with VPower to first click stop earlier, I heard the fuel rising in the filler neck, and the pump click stopped. Cool....full tank £63

However, about 5 mins down the road I could only see half a tank on my fuel gauge. It's now very slowly risen to full tank after about 20 mins of driving. Never had this before, usually it's instant to the F mark on the gauge.

The fuel light had been on, but only for literally about a mile before the Shell garage, so wasn't exactly on vapour as such.
Sticking float in the tank perhaps?

my maths thinks you are not on a full full tank , just keep an eye on it , they can be a bit slow to show full , or if it’s a one off or takes a while to show then at least it’s still working , reset your trip and keep an eye on that based on how much range you normally get

Correct, that only got me to just over 3/4 full as it turns out, (44 litres cost £61.37) so not sure why the fuel nozzle click stopped.
To be honest I've never thought about range / miles per tank etc, and therefore have never measured it.

However, this evening I filled up, and the gauge went straight to the F mark instantly as normal. Fingers crossed it was just a one off.....

From memory (and mine is terrible) i vaguely remember my bugeye doing the same. Was a one off. Try not to drive till the light comes on.

Lol, first time in over 6 years of ownership where I let the light go on.....for a mile! And then that happens....hmmmm
Lesson learnt!

you get about 30 miles or so when fuel light is on , but on the negative side you suck all the sludge and crap up from the tank yes there are normally two filters for it in theory to be cleaned before it reaches the engine , the other negative you can run lean as it’s struggles to get enough fuel into the engine , running lean you have a higher risk of det and other issues

Don't forget the tank is basically in two halves (space for prop shaft) and is only unified when relatively full.
Jet pump lifts fuel from the LH side to the RH side where fuel pump is. Each "halve" has a level sensor.

Used to find that when the light came on there were 10 or more ltrs remaining.

Blimey, thank you Don.....over and above as always!
