MDX321T on a 2.0

Is anyone running the MDX321T on a 2.0 with AVCS and standard STI 8 TMIC?

I'm thinking of going this route after my rebuild and looking for graphs, more specifically boost vs rpm

I know the TMIC will be restrictive. I'm ok with that though.

I have one on a 2.1 and it makes 410 and whiy meth 440 also with a tmic.

rockabilly 05 November 2018 09:08 PM

i have for sale a nearly new mdx321t+ twin scroll from lateral.cceramic coated too it made 380 at 1.4 bar on a blob spec c.full boost around 4500.gone back to a vf36 now..

Thanks for the replies, those numbers are short of what I was expecting. I thought there were 450hp turbos? Are you guys running cats? uprated fuel injectors and fuel pumps?

Thanks for the offer rockabilly but i'm not going twin scroll.

I made 430bhp 385ft/lb torque on my 2.0l with mdx321t

Heres my spec from my for sale ad

In 5th gear my AVCR shows 1 bar @ 2700rpm, full boost a blink of an eye later :D
Very happy with it, I did get a 3 bar map sensor and planned for more boost but as it is above is plenty for now :luvlove:

I had one a long time ago now, but 450 BHP with a standard TMIC is not going to happen. Even with FMIC on V-Power alone 450 is unlikely sorry to say.

Peter and Abbas, thats exactly what i was after. Thanks very much for your posts.

I was expecting the TMIC to hold it back a bit, i'd rather that than have a FMIC, I just cant stand the look of them .I'd rather the spool than going for 450hp. Wonder if i'd be better looking for a better TMIC...

I'm not using an MDX321T . .however if you're looking for a better TMIC, try loooking at Grimmspeed or Process West. I'm running a Grimspeed TMIC on my 2.1 stroker @ 442hp / 390ft/lb very comfortably, been using it for 3 years now on my daily and no complaints. They are expensive, but definitely worth considering when you dont want a FMIC.

Charles thanks for your input. I am looking at after market options and have seen the Grimmspeed and PW units. I will possibly just put up with the STI 8 one until i can afford a Chevron one to do it properly... The other thing i really need to sort out is proper air ducting/channeling because the classic undertray is a very poor match to the newage STI TMIC.

Out of interest, what turbo are you using? on VPower?

I've got the Grimmspeed undertray which has been modified to fit my classic. Yes only use VPower & Tesco Momentum, Turbo wise I'm running a modified SC46. Original SC46 died after 4000 miles, plastic bearing cages melted and gave way. SC/Blouch wouldn't honour the warranty saying EGTs were too high.In my opinion a peformance Turbo shouldn't have plastic bearing cages !! So had to pay £800 for a replacement SC46, which then got sent to Owen Developments to be upgraded with metal bearing cages, ceramic bearings and thicker heatsheild.

LewisScoob 09 November 2018 08:29 AM

Jeez, well thats not exactly ideal! Do you have a boost plot for the 46 on your 2.1 Charles? I realise the 2.0 will be later in the range but would be interesting to see.

Flywheel bhp and torque

LewisScoob 12 November 2018 08:50 AM

Thats a very healthy boost plot, what boost control do you have in place?

I've been offered a Grimmspeed TMIC at a price I would be mental to turn down so i'm now going that route too. I've looked at the Grimmspeed undertrays and they sell quite a few. Wondering which one you have and which bpnnet scoop you're running? Assuming this is on the blue wagon in your pic? I'll be running a 1" taller classic style scoop.

Yes I think so too, 1bar at 3600rpm and 1.8bar at 4100rpm. It's all handled by the Syvecs, think each gear has different target boost levels.

As they dont cater for classics I went for 2001 model undertray. Currently on standard scoop with one 1cm higher waiting to be fitted. IATs are all monitored by ECU and timing is retarded if temps get too high :thumb:

LewisScoob 12 November 2018 04:31 PM

Ah, Syvecs. Would love that but don't really have the budget for it. I know there's a school of thought that it will pay for itself when/if it saves the engine. but its a lot of cash when i'm already going to be k's out of pocket!

Steve Whitehorn 15 November 2018 07:01 PM

It is a guesstimate but on V power on a T expect about 425-430hp ish

Having a Syvecs wasn't a conscious decision, no other ECU would run in the car apart from OEM, but that hadn't been mapped. Tried four Simteks and none of them would run the engine, however when tested in other cars of similar age and model they all worked fine! It was an unexpected expense at the time, but compared to having a built 2.1 sitting there not running the expense was justified.

Keep us updated with your progress, turbo choice and Grimmspeed TMIC! :thumb:
