Overflow tank question

ive just put on a new overflow tank and am I right in thinking that the coolant hose that drops in through the top of the overflow tank needs to be airtight ?. My hose is too small for the hole to fit in

No it doesn't need to be airtight. the hose/pipe end must remain submerged just

Remain submerged, in theory, whatever the level in the tank so should reach the bottom of the tank and have slight off square cut to the end.

Cheers guys I thought so! Because it isn’t pressurised like the header!.

Is it ok for the header tank to settle half way also with coolant ?

hackisfun 24 October 2018 03:42 PM

header tank should be full

Think I have an airlock in the system after fitting the new overflow tank. Temps are all fine boosts well and nothing is spilling out the overflow tank.

Airlocks are very hard to clear. the main airlock area is the heater matrix behind the dash. Took weeks for mine to clear properly.

I’ve never had a problem with either the header or overflow tank being dry. After a blast the overflow obvs rises because the coolants being pushed through from the header, but always decreases in level in the overflow once it’s sat overnight. Headers the same, doesn’t fill right to the top but normally sits 2/3 centimetres below the top cap.

Any tips on how to clear an airlock ? I only know what I’ve read on the internet.
