Acceleration hesitantion

2008 Hatch STI.

in all modes between 2500rpm-3750rpm the car has started hesitating under acceleration if you just feather the throttle it’s very jumpy and bumpy until 4K then it’s fine plus really smoothly. It use to pull so smooth all the way through the Rev range now it’s very irratic through low revs. No fault codes I’ve had the intercooler off all the hoses look ok and checked for dirt on the Maf that looks fine, any suggestions?

CharlySkunkWeed 21 October 2018 08:08 PM

Mines the same. You heard of the GR stumble ? Though I'm surprised if it was fine before.

Markkingmonkey 21 October 2018 08:33 PM

Nope wtf is the GR stumble, and yeah was fine I used to be really impressed with the throttle response almost felt like it had anit lag or sumink it was so responsive and smooth

Google it. Its what you describe.

Ok so there’s a fix by replacing the filial pressure regulator? Hav you done this?

Fuel

haven't bothered yet but few on here have.

I saw ayank doing it, do you know who’s supplying the replacement part over here?

Markkingmonkey 21 October 2018 09:20 PM

Is the cobb fix the only solution? I suppose replacing for a stock part will only b a temporary fix until it fails again?

Replacing the fpr and dampers didn't correct my stumble, but as Charlie says, it generally doesn't just pop up as an issue from nowhere. Have you had any map changes and/or added any performance mods?

Markkingmonkey 22 October 2018 06:47 AM

It has a Andy forest remap on it but it’s always had that, I haven’t changed anything physically, it happened while driving at the Nurburgring I used the 102ron fuel they have out there and that seemed to trigger it, i don’t understand how that could effect it but apparently on some threads I’ve read it is a possible cause. Is a remap now necessary??

Gambit 22 October 2018 08:42 AM

If you where using 102 and now back to UK fuels I'd reset the ecu so that it resets the fuel trims

Markkingmonkey 22 October 2018 09:05 AM

How’d I do that? Disconnect reconnect? Does that effect the map?

if you disconnect you need to make sure it discharges completely, either sit with your foot on brake pedal for 30secs after you disconnect it , or just leave it disconnected overnight - but you lose all radio stations etc doing the disconnect

if you have a OBD-II ELM reader and something like Torque App you can do it that way without losing any radio stations. handy to have as well should any engine lights come on, they only cost about £10-15 to buy

it will not affect the map in any way.

Sweet my friend has a couple of very good ODB readers the proper laptop industry type with full work shop manual information associated so hopefully his will do the trick or disconnect the battery over night will do the same thing? I will return once done

Gambit 22 October 2018 12:13 PM

if your friend has access to the workshop software/diagnostic tools then just get him to do it for you

Markkingmonkey 23 October 2018 08:24 PM

Just thought I’d put a conclusion, carried out the ecu reset and low and behold it cured the GR stumble. Thanks for advice, I genuinely can’t believe putting the wrong ron fuel in could be such a problem
