Powdercoating Inlet Manifold Advice
Hi All,
So I'm waiting on a 2nd Inlet manifold for my 2006 Wrx Sti Impreza, sourced from Matty @ MB Developments I will be getting this powder coated to match my samco hose kit along with Front Strut, Perrin Radiator Shroud, Belt Shroud and Perrin Cold Air Intake. What precautions are needed as to not damage the engine (E.G dust etc entering the engine upon fitment) |

Id get some bottle brushes and get it under water, then and give it a good clean out, a couple of times, as it seems to be a common way to kill an engine. |
Suspicion is that residual media killed this engine:

The simple option is to tell your painter not to blast your inlet instead get it acid pickle dipped / |
Soda blasting seems a good option too as the media is water soluble. Not sure if soda would remove the original paint.

I had mine ice blasted but it wasn't enough to fully remove the old powder coat but propably would be enough on the factory paint.
So I had it glass blasted but no matter how well you tape it some of it will get inside. I washed it with a pressure washer for at least 30 min, left it to a engine builder who had a cleaning tank and after that one more time with the pressure washer. I actually chose not to paint it this time. |
