I generally don't use eBay that much (hmm auto correct spells Ebay as eBay :wonder: ), Saw something I needed (car part), that would accept an offer..it was up for £700 collection only, I used the make an offer for £600.

Guy messages back with counter of £601 but says he'll accept £600 however wants to avoid eBay fees.

Nothing new there: Commission on £600 is a quite a big whack, so I'm willing to side step it (cash on collection etc). So long as it doesn't f**k my own eBay account, it seems eBay are quite hot on intercepting any attempt to do them out of money, so I want to avoid this happening.


My current stance is the fees issue is his problem and not mine as that should be taken into account when listing/accepting offers, I'm not desperate to buy so an happy enough to walk away if needed. I'm just wondering what the 'done' thing is these days with situations like this. Usually I just keep it simple..the price is the price and the fee is the fee, so I have little experience in this.

If local and you’re able to pick it up then go for it.
i always put in my adverts to come and view the item before bidding to make sure it’s correct for you 😜
then I list it for 10% higher then I want for t to cover fees.

ebay don’t let you put mobile numbers but ways around it and you can text buyers to say yes I’ll sell for xyz

i got a warning for ending an auction early - yes I sold it out of eBay but told they I wasn’t aware of the rules.
ive even had a 30day ban for selling golly wogs which are apparently offensive!
search ebay for golly wogs and there’s 10,000 of items. Apparently they are ok though.

I think the onus is on him...the fee difference between £700 and £600 is £10, that's assuming he ever intended paying fees, which I guess not. Call me a wuss but I'd rather not screw up my eBay account.

I have a feeling he's on one of the Audi forums so I probably can trace him down and make contact outside of eBay, I have good knack of finding people... Moderator skills ;)

I haven’t paid eBay anything for selling for the last 14years never had a problem as genuine buyers always make contact on the mobile number or send a pm if intrested
if I get any offers and accept I always ask the buyer when coll3cting if he’ll be ok to cancel transaction so I don’t have to pay the fees
alternatively my items are overpriced on eBay enough to cover the fees if buy it now is used

i never accept PayPal only if sen5 as gift , bank transfer only or cash on collection

So how do you get the phone number across as eBay just blocks it.

and don’t offer postage collection only so if buy it now is used they can collect if they want it sent they’ll ask first before they press it

I’m a bad man... had my fishing gear up for sale around £660 £60 extra to cover the ebay fees. A guy wanted some bits but not all and asked if a deal could be hand.
Soona as he said this I knew ebay would monitor what happens with the auctions and if I ended early they would have charged me the fee. I’ve had this before.

so I messaged my number in code (I have 9
771 cars 222 lorries and 999 cats) and in minutes I had a text.

he got here days before the auction ended and I sold it all to him for my asking price (minus the £60)

i then tevised my items and out the prices UP.
didnt end or reduce prices but made it so that buying new would be cheaper 😜

i had several messages saying saying They could get cheaper new to which I ignored.

the items ended and auto realised which I ended. No final fee.
screw you ebay with your 10% charges and on postage!

only kicker is 2 items sold that one guy collected so I need ebay to not charge on the £8 postage and one item was £6 to post and I only listed at £3. Again I need ebay to not charge for this one.

will they listen?

Just called eBay to say I sold an item the postage was £8.50 and without knowing before hand the winning bidder wanted to come and collect the item in 10mins.

therefore I don’t want to be charged the 10% on the postage as I didn’t post it.
she said that the total charge has already taken this in to account and could see he collected it.
the only way I can see they saw this is by the messages.

she told me the total fee which was 10% of the final selling fee

thats scary fast!

I’m sure on these days there’s still a final fee
