Power steering issue

The power steering is squealing when cold and then shuddering while trying to dry steer, it’s fine when moving and warm. I can’t see any leaks and I’m not losing fluid is this just a pump failure?

Tighten/adjust your PAS belt up correctly lol

Markkingmonkey 03 October 2018 01:05 PM

You know what I hadn’t even considered that as a first option lol

and change your fluid...............

I’ve checked the belt although it’s not in the best condition it’s not loose, there is some signs of a small leak on the connection to the reservoir. But I got the missus to dry steer while I watched and the pump stalls completely the belt squeals at it slips. So i’m happy to replace the leaking pipe belt and fluid but do these symptoms sound terminal to the pump?
Cheerd

Markkingmonkey 08 October 2018 12:35 PM

go on the comma website put your Reg in and you’ll be ok
or if you have a competent accessory shop that won’t throw just any power steering fluid at you as the Subaru one has anti-foaming agents and other additives in that lose there properties over time.

So I had a quick YouTube to see if there’s a specific method for replacing the fluid ppl seem to be draining the reservoir with a turkey baster and mixing in fresh? Is that right? Doing that a few times until the mixed oil looks good enough?

I took all fluid out of bottle then took bottle off and used a massive syringe to suck it all out jet washed the bottle it had crap on the bottom from being in there over 13years

put bottle back on put new fluid in start car and whilst turning side to side taking any air out of the system with Cap off add more fluid till it’s reached the max line

i did mine after after I did my brothers and it really made a big difference on mine aswell

if yiur not sure give it in to a competent garage pal as it can get messy and a warning the fluid is flammable
