Clocking cars...why?

So, scouring Internet for a luxury barge to replace the old E39 530i.

Thought I found something; 2008 S320cdi limo with 68000miles

Dug a bit deeper...apparently it had a 'new' engine at 250k and odometer was reset back to zero...seriously WTF!!?? :cuckoo:

So that makes its real mileage at over 320,000mile! And no mention of gearbox, diff, suspension (air-matic springs, active shocks), and general interior/controls wear! And what's your bets the 'new' engine is a secondhand lump from a breakers yard?

Car was priced inline with other same spec cars with 100k to 150k miles and description said "genuine low miles", I thought things like this was a thing of the past, clearly not LOL!

Disgraceful ...

.. that you're not looking at a CLS instead ;)

Most CLSs are pretty low/standard spec for the asking prices. For example, No reclining/adjustable rear seats, massage, active suspension etc. Plus there's still plenty with the old straight-6 diesel engine which is a better engine than the V6 cdi.

Plan is to use it for inter-Europe travel, so rather not have one with over 300,000miles unless it's got a wedge of invoices showing everything that moves being rebuilt or replaced, parts aren't cheap for these old tubs.

It seems to be a trait amongst Subaru adverts and sellers get upset when you point out the problem. The fact it falls apart like a comedy clown car makes no difference if you are left with just an engine. A new engine at 100k does not make the chassis any better, stupidity at it's best or worst!

NASA maybe? With mileage like that, it's actually been further than to the Moon :freak3:

You'd like to think an HPI check would highlight that somethings up
