Goodyear F1 vs PS4
I'm running 17" alloys on my classic impreza, currently on 205/45/17 tyres.
I'm just about to order tyres and its between Michelin Pilot Sport 4 or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3. I don't really like tyres with soft sidewalls and I've heard the F1's have soft sidewalls, but I would like some feedback from people who actually had these tyres. |
F1’s are not a good tyre for a performance car. Got rid of mine after a few thousand miles. |
I've been running F1 2s & 3s on my Bugeye wagon for the last 5 or 6 years.
They've been my go-to tyre and are superb value and great all round (excuse the pun), and even with nearly 385lbs ft. and AP six pots they very rarely come unstuck. They are great in the wet (we get a bit more weather over here), wear well, they're quiet and keep their grip well as they wear down. So when my leased Golf R needed 4 new ones I replaced the OEM Yokahamas with F1 3s. Mistake! Nothing major, just noticeably less steering feel. So in April, after reading several tyre test reports I switched Mrs SWS's E350 coupe to Michelin PS4s. It's hard to tell exactly how much the feel improved because we were coming off of winter tyres but the Merc instantly felt sharper though it still rode as softly and quietly as with the F1s. So I'm planning to go PS4 all round now as I think Goodyear may have rather dropped the ball and not kept up. They cost a bit more (about £6 per corner, IIRC) but I'm very tempted. |
PS4 are one of the best road performance tyre, the f1 are a good all rounder but not as good as the PS4 in dry. |
I have PS4s on my STI Hatch. Great tyres in the wet and the dry. ,,,,, |
I had pilot sport 4 fitted to mine when I changed the wheels. I have to say that the ps4 are an awesome road tyre. Wet or dry the car has more grip than I have balls. They are so good in fact that I have had them fitted to my other cars.
