Ej22 vs Ej22t

Is there much benefit with a closed deck ej22t over an open deck with the closed deck inserts fitted?

all depends on the HP level your looking at.........

If its a closed deck conversion and done properlly you would need to be doing some serious stuff to bust the block,

more chance an internal failure sending rod through it, than outright failure

Powerwise probably around 600....at what power would the inserts not suffice?

SmurfyBhoy 15 September 2018 08:15 AM

If done properly i'd say its fit and forget, not a case of at X bhp you can run a closed deck but cannot run the inserts. they are basically the same strength wise

The chances that the actual block itself will be the failure are slim,

Its other parts that would be most likely to fail tbh, and if used regularly at much beyond 600 you start to go through some pretty costly parts more regularly,

have run various CDB blocks above 600 with good internals................

So more cost effective to get the inserts then?
A Subaru crank is good for 600 I've heard but what rods and pistols are suitable? I have some k1 rods but not sure if they are the same for 2.2 engine as the 2.0 one.
Is it only the stroke of the crank that differs?

2.5 crank and stroker pistons / rod kit to end up at 2.35...........

wouldn't personally use K1 anywhere near 600
