as you may have seen, i have been trying hard to get some interest from scooby owners in taking part on sunday 4th august for the first annual Top ten shootout, Elvington airfield near york.
so far had 2 entrants only from scooby owners :-(
i have offered it upto the northern lads, who have expressed interest, but i am now opening it upto anyone who wants to take part with a scooby, first come basis.

we are running head to head 1/2 mile drag runs, with a timed top speed trap at around 1.2miles.
in addition, there is a Timed handling circuit, one car at a time, running all day. you can go on whichever you choose, as many times as you wish.
RC developments and Jap perfromance mag are sponsoring the fastest jap cars, with prizes and trophies.
RC have been kind enough to offer a cusco strut brace or equivalent prize upto £250 value plus trophy for each of the following car groups: Scooby, gti-r, and evos.

Entry cost is just £70 per car for the full day. the event is invite only to competing clubs, so you wont have massive queues.
all entrants will in addition receive a copy of the video being shot professionally on the day.

the website with details is
http://www.trackdayplus.com

8 places are avilable to scooby owners. all the other clubs will have filled their ten places by end of June. would be a great shame if the scoobys were not well represented.

a few people have mentioned they may be worried about the opposition, and being embarassed by them? i'm sure this will not be the case, and as mentioned their is a mini competition within the ten scoobys for a trophy and prize anyway.
the handling course will show its not all straightline speed etc!

if you want to take part with your scoob, please email me asap. all entrants need to be paid up by end of june. there will be no entries accepted on the day.

spectators are welcome, 10am onwards, pay on gate.

the website will be updated to account for the latest entries soon, but briefly the following cars have confirmed :
10 skylines from 500-715bhp
6 supras over 450bhp
4 dodge vipers
6 gti-rs from 300-400bhp
6 RS turbos
4 rover turbos 230-340bhp
6 cosworths, all over 500bhp
10 cars from 200Plus,all 300-600bhp

in addition :
Transit Van (379bhp cossy engine)
Holden V8
Arial Atom
possibly a Turbo elise

finally the MLR evo register are sorting ten cars, upto and over 500bhp!

to take part email
enquiries@200pluslcub.co.uk
and download the entry form on the trackday plus website

Hope to see some scooby owners there!

RS turbos....Rover turbos??? Hardly gonna put up a challenge to some of the cars. I think I know one of the dodge viper entries there...my mates legacy raced and beat it. Its a friend of ours over here, and that was before we got the bigger turbo, and turned the boost up !! Why is the entry open only to "car clubs"? There are a lot fast cars around whose owners have no interest in joining cheesy clubs, where the owners spend all day polishing and fitting bass boxes. While you obviously want to weed out the slow cars ( I repeat RS turbos, rovers.. ) Making an invite only.. is this so that some individuals with fast DIY tuned cars cant come and show the rich boys up? The 200mph club, I doubt that many of the cars will come close., especially the rs turbos and rovers... Did I mention slow cars again??

ish 16 June 2002 10:25 PM

don't underestimate the rs turbo team!!!

one of their cars made 299bhp @ 14 psi boost on the rollers today.

when the boost is turned up to it's proper level who knows what power it will be making.

HKSubaru 16 June 2002 10:26 PM

try mellow yellow!

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 16 June 2002 10:35 PM

In all the years I have been into cars, I can count the number of rs turbos which I would regard as fast, on one hand. Most, despite big power claims, can barely get under 15 sec 1/4's with equally low terminal speeds, which is pathetic. There is a couple of fast ones around, but most are slow. 299 bhp at 14psi. Now that is impresssive, coz I aint seen any other engine ( size comparison of course, assuming a 2.0 in the rs turbo , if its a 1600, the I think the rollers are faulty, or someone is telling fibs. ) make that sort of power, with such a low boost level.

ChristianR 16 June 2002 10:48 PM

i am still interested in this - i will confirm my placement shortly.

ChristianR 16 June 2002 10:49 PM

does the 70quid cover insurance?

Chu 16 June 2002 10:53 PM

in addition :
Transit Van (379bhp cossy engine)
HOLDEN V8
Arial Atom
possibly a Turbo elise

wonder who the V8 is??;)

Spec 16 June 2002 11:01 PM

The 200 refers to cars with 200 (or more) bhp or 200 per tonne power to weight. :)
Glad to say both my cars qualify!

200PlusClub 16 June 2002 11:04 PM

a few of you seem to have wires crossed slightly!

the event is an annual club challenge, aimed directly at clubs who actually take part, and use their cars, not the "cheesy polishing type"!
for info, i run the 200+ club, and its for any performance car over 200bhp or 200bhp/tonne.

we do have 2 or 3 cars that have done 200mph proven as well, just for info. i can assure you we do very little polishing and posing!

as for the rover turbos and rs , is 12.46s 117mph quick enough for the 1/4 mile? thats one of the rover turbo entrants, i help out on it. fwd, 0-100mph in under 9s, beat that if you can please!

the RS turbo boys asked to come after i originally invited the cossy guys. all the cossys are 500+bhp dyno proven.
the rs (claims or otherwise) are another matter, but at least 2 or 3 cars are 2 litre zetec turbos, with dyno proven 350bhp, 8 injector and mappable ecus, so dismiss them at your peril.

we are running fwd, rwd, 4wd classes, so the rover and rs turbo owners will have their own battle.

the arial atom does 0-60mph in 3s odd, the transit van is invited purely as a shocker to some people. it is a genuine 370bhp cossy and will do a low 14s 1/4 mile.
there you go...

hope you see it as enough competition!
i reserved 10 places purely for guest cars such as the arial and tranny van, we also now have a holden V8, and possibly a diablo coming .
any other individual with something unusual or sufficiently quick to take part can email me direct, or apply via website.

Steve,

I'm sure if you ask nicely, there may be room for you/your friends car, since there aren't that many people coming forward.

I am surprised that so few people are putting their names forward ! There are endless posts of how "fast" peoples cars are, and here's an opertunity to prove it.....for £70 !!!! it sounds like a cheap day out.

Mark.

ustolemyname??stevieturbo 19 June 2002 02:10 AM

I sent my application away on monday, for both cars. Mates legacy, and my rusty ole granada. Another friend is already signed up, and taking his Viper GTS.. ( The one that got beat by the legacy :) and that was before the big turbo! up til 140mph anyway. The viper was better top end, although, maybe not so much now. )

DominicA 19 June 2002 08:48 AM

I'm suprised that no impreza owners wanna put their money where their mouths are. If we still had ours we'd probably go just for the fun of it. Let alone all these people with their tricked up turbos, FMICs and induction kits...

TonyBurns 19 June 2002 10:29 AM

Im going :D

I'm also going for a giggle, though the automatic removes any skill from the drag launch

Adam M 20 June 2002 02:24 PM

what about the trouts and topcats of this world?

christian would do it if his was ready in time.

even if mine was ready I wouldn't do it. dont like the publicity, never mind the humiliation! (my driving - the car would kick arse)

bdrought 20 June 2002 02:28 PM

Its a drag strip Adam.. get yer car sorted and dont be a chicken.

I'm taking a bloomin E-Class, so dont worry about being the slowest.

TopCat 20 June 2002 03:03 PM

would be a great day put thanks ADAM;-)

200 plus you have mail....looks like another gearbox here we come.
