Boost guage

Chaps pls excuse my lack of mechanical knowledge but is this how the boost guage is supposed to work?
When I turn the ignition on, it rests at zero

however, on starting, it goes to about revving it or driving shows this.....

Is it supposed to drop back to 20 and rise to about 0 ?????
It is connected as below.....

Yes it's normal, it'll be under vacuum at idle and -20 in/hg is normal also

When "off boost" you car is naturally aspirated so the inlet will be under vacuum conditions and the vacuum will rise /fall depending upon revs.
Only when the turbo comes on boost will it rise above 0.

Ahh ok - ty.
Even with hard acceleration, it doesn't rise much above 0 though.....

When standing still?

On tickover, it reads BELOW zero.
Only when driving hard will you see it moving.
