MY 00 UK Turbo - Bob Rawle ECULabs MAFless remap.

Hi all

I recently decided to come back to the fold - had a MY99 for a few years from new. I always fondly back on the car and on this place - has changed a bit. Prices seem to be going up so seemed like a good time!

I managed to find a completely rust-free, bone-stock MY00 that was pretty much identical to my old girl.
1 owner since 2001 - as cherished as they get.

Lovely car, but felt flat as a pancake - a few subtle gentleman-racer modifications were in order.

I had a full fluids, plugs and belts service, new O2 sensor, H&S 2.5 decat downpipe and mid, STI backbox, 3 port for solenoid, 340 fuel pump and k&n filter fitted.

I remember having MAF anxiety back in the day, so was interested to see Bob Rawle was mapping the ECULabs software which supports MAFless operation.

Had a fun morning with a Bob on the A419 - end result was fantastic. Quick spool-up, smooth and progressive power but a real wodge of torque and some top end fizz.

Estimated power/torque was 276hp, 295 lb/ft on Esso 97 RON - happy with that!

I've had my MY00 UK Turbo for 10 years now. Absolutely love it, look forward to every drive. Has been remapped by Bob twice now and is running a VF28.

Had my 98 car since new.

Running 400+/400+ with a forged 2.5, but sadly, unlikely to ever turn a wheel again, as an MoT without a CAT is now not possible round here, so SORNed at present. No cash, or incetive to put even a sports CAT on it with wife now confined to a wheelchair.
Wish I'd sold it two years ago.........

Why not pay a garage to pop a cat on, pootle round to the mot place and then take it off straight after? Max of £100 each year I’d have thought? I used to do that.

Really sad to hear that part of your life is gone for the sake of a simple cat swap....

mate that sounds terrible...really sorry to hear about your wife..
i don't know where you live, but i suspect there are a few motorsport type garages that also do MOT's who would be sensible....Then perhaps sell it and move on..?

Some interesting contributions - many thanks :)

I've used 3/4 of a tank of fun since the remap. I'm fortunate to live in Wiltshire so have some lovely empty roads to enjoy.

The car is lovely - although I'm sure I'll end up bolting on a VF35 at some point, I think this is a sweet power level for the car. Nicely grunty but plenty of scope for full throttle.

Dont even have a cat now plus no spare cash to get one.
Not allowed by my family to sell it.
Doubt it'll ever run on the road again.

alcazar 12 August 2018 09:47 PM

North Lincolnshire.
been online, but unsure: its a forged 2.5, hstd05 20g, full decat with tsl group n exhaust.
lots of stuff from £160 up, but what fits?

AT@JDM 16 August 2018 10:32 PM

Got a standard import cat here you can have cheap.

alcazar 17 August 2018 08:36 AM

Sorry, no idea what fits, what it needs and no £££££ to pay for anything, too busy spending £300 pm on fuel to go to wakefield three or four times a week.

Thanks.

jaygsi 17 August 2018 08:42 AM

Sounds like a right mess. Who's stopping you selling the car?

Well, thanks a lot guys.

When my eldest gets back next weekend, we'lll look at measuring up. At present the car is blocked in by all his tools he's been using for his Clio197 to Clio 225+ engine conversion.
