Track car tyres
 

Looking for thoughts on track tyres. Classic WRX, caged, AST 3 way suspension, 520 bhp on smaller turbo and 630bhp on larger. Had to move up to 18 inch wheels due to 365mm brakes. Dont want to go slicks as no dry sump yet and no data logging. In Cyprus so it is always hot which is a major consideration.
My thoughts are
Yokohama A052. Sadly i have not been able to find the AO50 anywhere. If anyone knows where to source these from i would appreciate it.

size 255 or 265/35 or 40.

Any experience with these? Especially this year whilst it is supposedly hot in the UK?

I did look at these, but was warned that although good iin the UK, they dont like high temps as a bit soft both in sidewall and compound. I checked on Saturday and the road temp outside my house at 3 in afternoon was 65 degrees. That was despite it not being that hot at 32, although was 32 from 8am. So plenty of hours for the road to get hot.

I have only really ever used road legal track tyres, usually R888 and Federal RS-R, but as said above there are many more and I have heard good things about the Nankang. I think there was a thread on here about them which was a mixed review, but in the main not everyone agrees with a particular type of tyre as it does depend on temp, road surface, power, type of event and how you wish the car to behave.

I ran some ex WRC tarmac tyres a few weekends ago and they were terrible, probably because the condition were extremely wet, but when I switched to R888, albeit the circuit dried a little, I managed to shred 5 seconds off my times! I think the WRC tyres simply weren't getting hot enough in the short sprints - cant recall the brand but they will have been either Dmack, Pirelli or Michelin (there all practically the same anyway now)

In the end I have gone for the Yokohama A052. Should be with me soon and I will report back. Also went for the AD08R for the STi road car.
