Decent system

I have had my 2003 wrx for 15 years and lived with the horrendous stereo. Want to upgrade finally to something respectable and loud. I know this is vague. I live in Hull if anyone can recommend a good company.

Do you have a budget? Would you be prepared to install it yourself?

The main thing is sound deadening the front doors with quality sound material. Im just going through this process myself. I managed to get a bargain silent coat bulk pack and have just started on the doors. Next would be a decent set of components or co-axials with adapter rings or home made mdf baffles. I will post up some pics

Is it easy to strip the doors down ready for the deadening

Yes. Just remove the door cards and then the plastic sheet underneath (make sure you replace it afterwards).

I've just done my rear doors and fitted some Hertz speakers. Next up is the front doors and I have some Alpines to go in there. when sound deadening the doors is obvious that the big cut outs in them, used to access window mechanisms etc lose a lot of bass, I basically sealed up the doors as best I could by covering the whole of the door in dynamat and it turns the doors into a box. seems to have had a bit of an effect so I'll do the fronts and see what happens. I already fitted tweeters in the front doors and that makes a lot of difference to the clarity.

Next job is tracing rattles as I also have two subs in the boot.

What size speakers are you fitting in the front?
And how are you controlling it all - passive/active crossovers, time alignment etc?

Personally I wouldn't have bothered with the rears if you have subs as they just bugger up the sound stage.
